11 Field Regt. RCA here. And YES, the 105mm Howitzer is a loud one... I got 55-60% hearing loss in my right ear, and 10-20% in my left ear... 'cause in the old days, ear protection wasn't "cool". :)

12 ga shotgun 3-1/2" Premier Magnum Turkey Load 2and a 1/4 OZS of #4 shot through a full turkey choke! That is pain!

105mm pack howitzer when I was in Petawawa in the Infantry. Suppossed to be a fun shoot, scared the #### out of me when I first fired it. And, while it didn't exactly kick, an 84mm Carl G anti tank rocket launcher. When you fire it you have to wear two sets of ear defenders and, it will literally blow the snot out of your nose...firing that stuff is worth all the bull#### in the army.

kicking gun

I find that the recoil from one ounce rifled slugs in a full choked 12 gauge can cut your trigger finger and sprain the wrist.

12g Cooey Single Shot back in the mid-fiftys. Purple shoulder/fat lip country for sure!

Oh --- yeah! And the forend grip would spring slightly open and snap back in place pinching the skin on my fingers! Had to resort to electric tape to hold it in place. You had to be fourteen and really desperate to go hunting to use that mother!:bangHead:

(Sorry if this has been said before but there is no way that I'm going to be able to read 552 posts on this subject. Too busy living!)

I haven't shot anything bigger than a .338 so nothing major in heavy recoil...

My buddies ruger (m77 I believe with a synthetic stock) chambered in a .270 is definitely louder and kicks more than my old remington 760 chambered in .270, but not as much as his .308 norma mag. None of those rifles bother me in terms of recoil...

however when I was probably 10 I lined up on a grouse with the .410 and the shotgun wasnt tight to my shoulder... I remember that shot

On a hunting trip in Alaska for grizzly, my guide carried an Ultralight Arms .416 Rem Mag -- iron sighted, weighing about 5 or 5-1/2 lbs. After sighting in my .338, I took him up on his offer to try the .416. While I did hit what I was aiming it, I also managed to punch myself in the nose during recoil and saw stars for awhile. There's a reason a .416 is supposed to weigh more than that...

I shot an old 10ga that would drop both hammers. Fun times!

45-120 and 50-140 pack a punch but tend to be heavy guns to start so aren't too bad.

I have the most trouble with guns that have bad stock fit. That can be a lot worse that the actual power of the round.
