Whats the hardest kicking gun you ever fired?

Was it just the rifle or do you think you'd find 458 Lott unbearable in any rifle?

Well it was a Ruger RSM with a nice hard buttpad. I didn't feel like the .458 Win Mags belted me much less than the Lott. The recoil is just on another level. I've shot the same in .375 H&H and it didn't bother me much.

Perhaps an M70 in .458 WM would be less punishing, but I have my doubts. The Winnie is a pound or two lighter.

An old WoW (yes World of Warcrack, 2 years clean btw) buddy of mine was a gun nut. We got together for a guild meet and greet, and shoot. He liked his big bores, so I had a chance to fire a big one :D

As far as felt recoil goes, I'd have to say the Wood stock, recoil-pad-less .50 macmillan i fired while down south.

The 20MM i shot while i was in Tennessee definitely had a much larger boom, but that gun weighed 140lbs so it didn't hit nearly as hard...

Never fired any larger caliber rifles, they aren't too common here as most shooting is at shorter ranges but have fired lots of .270, 7.62 x 54, .303 etc but what ranks highest so far is 1 oz slugs out of the KSG.

To be fair, it was at the range on a warm day with only a t-shirt on. I had to take some more shots a few days later so I loaded both tubes up with shells, wore a jacket and a cushion and it was a completely different story then!

Buckshot out of it with light clothing seems fine but the slugs can be nasty.

A friend was sighting in his .50 cal muzzle loader at the range and finished up so I said "You're not done yet, fire this" and handed him the KSG with a slug. He called 3 days later and asked if I was bruised as well!

In a rifle, a side by side .416... But a 12 gauge 3.5" in a 5.5 pound single shot just about knocked me on my azz, caught me off gaurd, since I am not recoil sensitive, I respected that gun after the first shot!

I have a 20" .375 H&H carbine but it is a pussycat compared to my Mossberg 500 with a lightweight Choate top folding stock with it's TINY rubber shoulder pad. With 3" slugs it is agonizing to shoot.

Not the hardest kicking calibre .. But it was a 30.06 in a wood stock that had a crack in the pistol grip. The flex made it feel like something bigger and caught me off guard. And gave me a good pinch in the finger lol

LoL! ... is that a fact Kevin? ... Bwaaa ha haaw! ... 3 things that you may not wanna hear:
1. The 82 grains of powder that drop-tubed into those 'slightly steamy' loads?, ... & the ominus crunch-crunch-crunching sound in the die :runaway:... as them weighty bullets seated down to 3.850"oal.
2. Most .375 first-time-out'ers of my aquaintance ... they generally tend to refrain themselves, ... from ripping off six rounds <rapid fire> right out of the gate!. Eh?. :p
3. Count yer lucky stars those weren't Prone Shots ... as that rifle quite frequently gets discharged from.:p:wave:

Hehehehe.

Those 6 rounds were something to behold... pushed us both right up a hill if I remember correctly.

That .375 has some thump to her for sure.

For the most painful recoil though, that still goes to my .45-70 guide gun with full house factory ammo.... or my .500 S&W if you wanted to play handguns lol...

Two cylinders of slow fire is all I can handle before accuracy starts to suffer.

I have fired so pretty stout firearms over the years, including a 350 wildcat, 375 H&H, 45/70 guide gun and.... A 50 BMG, which I thought was a good idea to remove the brake and shoot. I love hard recoiling guns!
The hardest recoiling/most painful gun that I have ever used would have to be the Trench gun with 3" slugs, benched. My god, the F'er was not made for comfort at all, sharp edges on the straight metal buttpad. I got 5 out of her before I went back to shooting slugs out of my 12' Wingmaster and 20' 590.

Hardest for me is 3" slugs in a Baikal Mp-153 12 guage. I can handle 3.5" waterfowl loads but the slugs still kick my ass.

Rifle that surprised me the most and the only one I have almost scoped myself with was a 7mm Rem Mag. Such a fast recoil and I wasn't prepared for it, don't remember what rifle it was, it was someone's at the range.

For me its my Win 94 30-30 carbine. Of all the guns Ive fired this one kicks like a mule, my other 94's are nowhere near like this one. Even the Mosins and my 308 feel like a pellet gun compared to that gun.

585 Nyati. Hands down, the most IGNORANT recoil ever.
Even with 20lbs of lead 'pansy pad' on my shoulder. I could not raise my arm the next day.

Did I mention I do not bruise? Well, that was proven wrong over the next 2 weeks. 3" shell, 750gn bullet.... Do the math..... Ignorant is an understatement.

Makes a 460wby feel like a .223

Byw the Nyati had NO muzzle brake and this was on the bags. Commercial Mauser action, express sights, composite stock...9.6 lb gun....errr cannon.
I have no flinch anymore....

still new to shooting so....so far its been a 870 12g pump followed by a 8mm mauser that a gentlemen offered me to try @ the range one day...that packed a good hit. It actually was much less punishing then i was anticipating, even with a steel butt plate, so it went well...
