In the grand scheme of things all guns are good, but what is the one caliber that has no niche to fill and should be done away with? Please remember that we're talking calibers and not rifles.

For my money, I'd say .17.

I know guys love their .17's, but there's nothing a .17 can do that a fast .22 can't do better and more accurately due to better wind bucking (IMO).

Still, I say more power to you if you own a .17 - they're fun as hell, and I've shot them with good results at gophers and coyotes, but something like a .221 Fireball will knock the pants off of anything in .17 I've ever seen - at longer distances, with about the same recoil.

If you love your .17, no offense - but I don't ever plan on owning one. I'm glad you like it, and I hope you continue to enjoy it - because more choice is a good thing!

I dont' see a lot of use for 7-30 waters ........put the grinder down...leave that M-94 alone :D

As for the Factory ones....well I guess they are few and far in between and for a good reason.

300 Ruger Compact Magnum is totally redundant

300 Ruger Compact Magnum is the King of useless calibers!

We already have the excellent:
  1. 300 H&H mag
  2. 308 Norma Mag
  3. 300 Rem S.A. Ultra Mag
  4. 300 Win Short Mag
  5. 300 Win Mag
  6. 300 Weatherby Mag
  7. 300 Rem Ultra Mag
  8. 30-378 Weatherby Mag
  9. and I probably missed 2 or 3 other 300 mag calibers !!

How redundant can you get?

Without a doubt the .25 ACP, there's a reason nobody chambers for it: it's the most useless cartridge ever devised, you'd be better served with a .22 LR.
I can't for the life of me figure out why they prohibited it, you'd think they would have made it mandatory instead. As for rifle cartridges, there's so much
duplication of performance between the various loads, it's difficult to single out one particular cartridge. I'd venture the truly useless ones have already faded
into history. How's that for fence sitting?:)

Tons of people have been killed by that "useless calibre".

My vote goes to the Remington short mags and .17 cals.

Very much my attitude. The .17 won't do much more that .22 Mag and ammo costs as much as .223Rem. For the money, it's a waste.
