What's the most useless caliber

Stonehorse- how could you poss say the 25-06 is a useless caliber- First it is a fine cartridge - but then it is a 25 caliber which has also many other fine cartridges such as the 257 BOB - 257 WEA - 25-284 WIN etc- Smarten up while you can - it may not be the best or your fav- but it is Excellent - and i bet i get more backup then you do ! Jim :D

its not so much useless as it is pointless. the world would have continued to go round and guns would still go bang if ballistic techs had said "meh, screw it"

the 260 spanks the bloody pants off it

I dont say it is useless, but i have no use for it kind serve no purpose for moose or elk or caribou for deer cant take away my 308 Steyr Scout nor any of my 44 mag for varmint my 223 fill the bill... But it is a nice rifle a Savage 99 in 250-3000 left to me when my uncle past away, it is more a souvenir than anything, this rifle is old but it look brand new... JP

I don't think any cals are truly useless, just not required.

If a fellow had a .223, .30-06 and a .375, you would be fully covered for any game in the world. The rest is just frills.

.14 cal rimfire

This topic is going to go on forever. Everyone has their own opinions so we will not all agree on "The Most Pointless Caliber Ever"

OK. But, I just cannot see the point of making special forming dies, making special bullets etc just to have a .14 cal rimfire (the .14 Jones).

I'm may start something, Any caliber that came out after 2000, I don't think you will be able to buy any of them in a new rifle within 15 years, maybe 300wsm, I think the 338federal is the only exceptions

not tech. a caliber I guess but the 16 gauge has always seemed completly pointless to me.with the 20's & the 12's they have now I can't see the 16 around long.If I had to pick a "most usless cal." it would be the 303 savage.

Pretty much any of the early Savage calibers. The .300 Savage has been outlived/replaced by the .308 Win. The only re-birth (if you wanna call it that) has been the .30TC....but look how popular that one is now

Fine taste, and a perfect example of an all around battery. I'm slowly building a three rifle combination for hunting anywhere, any game; a .275 (Rigby) single shot, a .375 H&H bolt action, and a .475 Morrison double rifle.

Is there such a thing as a useless caliber ? I don't think so because if it works for you and puts meat in your freezer, who cares what anyone else thinks of it.
For example, one of my mentors as a kid growing up on a farm near Saskatoon was a chap named Ernie Moreton who collected at least one of every Western Canadian big game animal except bears and had the heads to prove it.... with a peep-sighted Savage 99 in 303 savage.
He did this over about 30 years from the 1920s to the '50s. maybe hunting was easier then.
So, is a 303 savage useless ? No I don't think so and I'm certainly no fan of it.

Someone mentioned a 270-08... Bill Leeper made one for me out of a 700 Ti 260 that had a crappy barrel.... is it useless ? Well if it is, it is one of the best "useless" tack-drivers I have ever had and kills every bit as well as my 270 Win.
No doubt some perform better than others, but as I said if one works for you how can it be deemed useless ?
