pbonura - Time will tell what my shoulder can handle. I do have previously torn rotator cuffs from climbing but they are getting pretty strong again seven years after the injuries. The barrel is free floated, I checked with a piece of paper between the barrel and stock last night. No hang ups. I will definitely be posting a range report.
A LH '98 in x62 !! ... walnut and blued steel too ... ain't that something.I haven't even decided nor bought the scope that I will mount on it.
Keep the comments and suggestions coming.
'looky, ... yer damn good at touching me funny bone, so you are.Mount a x50 objective lense scope on her

Ted - Yes, I will shoot it with the stock butt pad on there and see how I do with it. The problem is going to be finding time to get to the range, work and school have me pretty tied up.
Looky - Yes the sander may have to come out on the stock as we have discussed. It is incredibly difficult to get the sights to line up as I can't get my eye down low enough.
Kayaker - Thanks for that, I did read that in the booklet that came with it but didn't understand why.
Baribal - I think I will be going with the Weaver's. What rings are you using? This is all a ways off as I haven't even decided nor bought the scope that I will mount on it.
Interesting note on the one piece bases, Ted. Learn something new everyday, it makes sense when you think about the physics involved. Plus, I think the one piece base will ruin the classic look of these rifles.
Keep the comments and suggestions coming, this thread is already a great resource for someone like myself getting started on the x62.
Well, on all those I have / had, I used the 46 front and 45 rear. The difference will be the height of the bases. 20A is pretty thin and will mount a tad lower.
I use full power loads to fireform: 4320, 4895, 4064, Re 15, Varget, 3031, they have all worked. Any load that a loading manual indicates will get a 286 gr bullet to 2300-2400 will give you perfectly formed cases. The difference in point of impact between fire-formimg loads and the same load in formed brass, is so small it can only be demonstrated from the bench. That is why I have had no hesitation hunting with fire-forming loads.
As well, the accuracy remains the same. The reason I adjusted the scope in the posted target was because I was shooting the 286 gr PRVI for the first time, and they hit slightly lower than the 270 Matrix. Come to think of it, that would have been a pretty neat four shot group if I had not adjusted the scope.

The wood is quite good. I was tempted as I shoot from the left side but am happy with mine (Syn black RH) as most of my bolts have been that way!

Do not expect it to happen, unless one puts a hand on some floating in Europe. Zastava are not the kind of company to sell small quantities most Canadian retailers buy.
