Whats the story on the 9.3X62 in Canada?

I hunt with some (the SHR and the Lakelander are my go to rifles), but the others are seldom shot, but they are once in a while.

Well we can't have the firing pin gunking up and freezing when you go out to try to punch yourself in the schnoz after you cut the stock now can we? That would be anti-climatic!

Laugh2 Laugh2

Your killing me BUM. All that firing pin gunk didn't seem to stop me punching myself in the schnoz when I was first shooting her and had my head behind the Monte Carlo. lol

Since my last move, most of my reloading gear has not been set up however I can still do some. I'm in the Halifax area and if you want to send me a pm I may be able to help you with reloads. Save your brass and let us know how your first shots go. I'm concentrating on the 270 grain Speer and cast bullets for starters as they should handle a black bear, white tail or target practice nicely.

Where do you shoot?
Thank you for the offer, once things settle down (was in school just getting back to work) I might take you up on that offer! I mostly shoot out of the Stanley range, but I'd like to find one
With 300m or so distances.

Ok, who ordered in the ammunition for you and what kind and bullets weights is it?

I've got a Parker Hale Safari stock on the way to bed my Husky/FN barreled action into and will then mount either a Leopold 2-7 x33 or a straight 3x on top. I'm hoping the cast bullet loads will provide an economical and recoil friendly way to practice with the 9.3.

I ordered from trade ex it's Prvi partizan 286 grain soft points. Trade ex had a big selection of shells, and its about $15 for shipping. Hirsch Precision in lame echo I think they are located sell shells for $2.50 a piece. hirschprecision.com
I got a set of weaver mounts, medium grand slam bases and a old 4x32 bushnell scope I can throw on later if I decide to. I can't wait for tomorrow I took it all apart today and tuned the trigger for a lighter pull.

So talking to someone about 9.3x62 dies, it was mentioned that some dies use the .30-06 base diameter vs the true 9.3x62 diameter. Is there any truth to this? Does this matter at all?

I've never heard this before, and yes it would matter. I think it would be very difficult to full-length size your brass since you would be squeezing the base down to .30-06 diameter all the time. I'm using RCBS dies and haven't noticed any problems with them.

Never heard of that neither. As far as I know, the dies are made to CIP specs.
A 30-06 case will fit a 9.3X62 die but not the inverse.

I had mine to the range yesterday, and was prepared a lot harsher kick! It was grouping pretty good for a cheap gun, roughly 2" groupings at 100 yards wearing an old 4x32 bushnell. Im very impressed with the adjustable
Trigger too. It doesn't have as clean of a break as my sako but set around 2lbs it's
Pretty good. It didn't heat up to bad either even after 35 rounds, with some cooling breaks of coarse.

Cheeseburger,
donno what kind of detail you want, but the SHR have an amazing trigger, their barrels are top of the line, only negative point is the weight. I use a Nikon Monarch UCC 2-7x32 on it.

I didn't know what SHR was so I spent some time on google. Just wish some of these manufactures would build more stuff in left handed versions. Ah well I have my Zastava to work on.

The Swiss Arms (SIG in the USA) SHR970 is no longer in manufacture, but some new batches still show up once in a while... we don't exactly know if they are made of leftover parts or if some parts are freshly made, but the S/N range I saw points in the production leftover direction.
That's a three lugs bolt, short 60 degree lift and large bolt body, the action is quite smooth to operates. It has a quick switch barrel set-up, but the spare barrels (in iinteresting chamberings) are not very common.

Baribal_ I have one 970 in 9.3x62 and I bedded the factory replacement stock to prevent the split the occurred with the first shots.

I just picked another one up like new (a few rounds fired from the original owner)- did you bed yours? I dont want to bed as they shoot so well, but I have a nagging worry about splitting.

I love these guns_ especially in 9.3x62.

I didn't bed the wood stock, but I carefully checked the fitting and the fancy wood of the Lux model tends to split, as you experienced. I did epoxy bed me synthetic one, though. Numrich still had synthetic stocks last time I checked, but they went up in price A LOT lately..
Incredible shooters these rifles, aren't they :)

They are a great great shooter, fast lock time, mag fed, iron sights that work, palm swell, fits and points well, great balance. One of my favorites.
Thanks for your info on the bedding.

I've recently been intrigued by the 9.3x62 Mauser and I've read about as much I can handle. Its been around longer than the 30'06 and has very popular in Africa and Europe a for the majority of its life. Ammo availability probably sucks but I am set up to load 303 so I assume I could load the 9.3 just as easy. I haven't looked for price/availability of components quite yet, GOOD factory ammo is still being produced but might hard to find and expensive. The 9.3 will fit in a standard length action and it does not have a belt which I find are attractive features. The ballistics are equal to if not better than the 35 Whelen which is great for cartridge of that size. There seems to be lots of rifle choices out there from CZ, Sako and a few others and a bunch of old stuff in sometimes questionable condition but extremely cheap online. I haven't hunted at all in my adult years but I will hunt at some point in my life. Its inevitable and I would need a rifle for that occasion right?. I find I'm drawn to larger slower cartridges with rich history and I like them chambered in CRF rifles. The 9.3's story is epic and nobody seems to argue much against a Mauser or M70. I don't know anyone who currently shoots a 9.3x62, actually I don't personally know anyone who ever has either. I hear its a great round that will take anything in North America and I can take it to Africa when I win the Lotto too. So tell me please why I should not buy one because cause I might just have to pull the trigger!

P.S - 270/30'06 lovers stay home, I'm done with the .30 cal thing!
I have a Sauer 202 outback in 9.3x62, I have used both the Sellier & Bellot and Hornady factory ammunition with very good results ($40-45 a box in vancouver). It is a very light rifle and the recoil is not much more than a 308.

Cheesburger,

there is less and less available rifles for left hand shooters.

when you find one you want or wish dont pass on it.

all the best.
