Whats with all the cool new 'Black Rifles' being $2000 +

De-restricting the AR in Canada will be fought by certain segments of the gun community, mostly for financial reasons. The same thing would happen in the US if the decision to allow production and sale of FA firearms was brought up.
Not so much FA, but I think domestic manufacturers would throw a #### fit if the import restrictions got lifted and Americans could buy Swiss Arms, Tavors, and whatnot. Foreign manufacturers stand to gain a lot (and domestic would lose a lot) if they were able to get back into the American gun market for military-style sporting arms.

And American gun makers know this.

For everyone these type of post that suggest what pricing should be like in Canada, I would like to see them try to start their own importing business and be the "holy pricing crusader" this community in so desperately in need of :)

I'd be concerned if I was in the US and had a crate load of RDIAS's that I was currently able to sell for upwards of $10 000 each. I mean $10 000 for two pieces of metal held together with a pin that a high school student could make half a dozen of in a Friday afternoon metal class?

In any case, that was the discussion I was watching unfold on another forum.

Regards.

Registered Drop In Auto Sear. Basically a registered machine gun in it's own right. It is made from two pieces of machined steel held together with a pin. Drop it into an AR lower together with the right parts that you can buy online, and you have full auto.

You can Google exact engineers drawings for it online, but woe betide you if you get caught with one. You might as well walk down main street carrying an unregistered machine gun.

But there is no way a high school student could make a RDIAS...that is why they are so expensive.

A high school student could make a DIAS for cheap. You're paying for the R.

Hence the resistance from certain quarters any time someone mentions pushing for a change in the law.

Why are you reading these threads and not working day and night on your project? Back to work you bad boy!

You shouldn't be drunk and posting in forums, the internet police will pull you over. Just keep your hands where you can see them and step away from the keyboard.

I'll see what I can do when I am at SHOT in a few weeks. I have a meeting planned this week with someone I do a bit of work for, and who has enough clout/contacts/financing to back something. I can't say any more than that at present.

Regards.

Mark

Cool, so he has DOS contacts then?

I think that the only thing that will be an issue is persuading him to agree to pull something off.

Might not be Colts, but I'd rather settle for BCM personally.

no.

(for example) The Remington R-series of Rifles are priced the same as the rest of the Remington line that is available at Epps. I.E Below MSRP.

Why does a $900 RRA cost $1300 here?

This has everything to do with distribution. It's not a big deal to bring up a handful of R-series rifles when you're importing hundreds of the regular Remingtons as a distributor - and you're going to be receiving a substantial volume discount.

It's considerably more effort when a smaller retailer has to act as importer/distributor/retailer, and we're only taking about maybe a dozen or so rifles. At the end of the day, the question is would you rather have an R or RRA? I'd rather pay more for the RRA.

Addendum: I know profit is a dirty word in this country, but is there something inherently wrong with wanting to make money? It's not like our industry is heavily-subsidized...

What about the ACR then? Should it not be about a $1000 less than it is?

(yes, my statement was a set-up. Waiting for someone to say Remingtons are cheaper because of their distribution network) :)

Saying it's from Remington Military won;t cut it.
