What's with the targets lately?

What really annoys me is when I'm shooting a string of targets, and I get this flyer, and up until the point I see the hole in the target I have absolutely no idea why it went there. Felt like it should have just went through the hole that was already there. Then on other occasions I grunt "ah crap" almost before the bullet gets there, and expect to see it hanging out there as a flyer. Those always go into the same hole.

I wish I could call a flyer. It would make me feel like I knew what I was doing!!

flyers dont always come from the puerson behind the trigger, i know when i have pulled a shot but i also get the flyer for gawd knows why.. its just how it works, powder laod could be off, maybe i sliped and didnt repaet my loading process to the "t" and the bullet was seated different, maybe it was crooked in the case and had more run out.. who knows why. when it comes down to it you could have the highest end rifle ever built, but even that will have flyers, granted the flyer takes your group from .3 to .5 moa and isnt way out there like an off the shelf rifle..

i guess what im trying to say, a person can call if they pull a shot, but calling a flyer is impossible

All I'm getting at is just measure the groups for what they are.... Flyers and all.
I just find it amusing how guys will claim these 1/2 MOA groups when it's really 1.5MOA at best with the "flyer".

Oh boy.....at this time of the year these rant threads always come up. The disease is called ican'tstandwinteranymoreandIneedtogetoutandshoot-itis. There is a cure and it's called spring. Another month or so boys and we'll be ringing that metal again. Besides, shooting at paper is for pansies...........:D.

I just posted on Weds. My pics demonstrate the capability of the rifle, and lack of capability of my shooting! Rifles don't cause flyers... people cause flyers :)

Finally some real nice shooting. Paper is for getting your scope dialled in, the rest is for pussies, or internet wannabes:nest: Had my Timberwolf out to 1050 yards, similiar groups. BTW I asked my buddy just back from the sand box, how the Timberwolf is doing in Afghanistan, all he said was awesome. No whining about paper groups, bwahahahaha

can someone PM me so I can post a aggregate of 5 5 shot s at 100 yards at a real Br match just as a bit of a reference point as some would like to see actual targets done at a match with moving backers, just for fun
and maybe a target shot in the heavy wind at a match to see the difference Jefferson

I'm afraid I can't agree with you there. For anyone that shoots rimfire, it is brutally obvious that most flyers are caused by the ammo, assuming you have a good benchrest setup and decent gun. Poor rifles also cause flyers, but less often. And the same thing happens in centerfire. Here is a rimfire target with poor ammo at 50 yards. It has flyers not caused by the shooter. If I only showed you the bottom right target I'm sure I could convince you this was match quality ammo. But if you look at the other targets, it is not hard to see that I just got lucky on one target, and the ammo decided to behave. The circled shots were just there to calibrate the measuring of a single bullet hole size. The numbers beside each group is the raw outside group measurement and needs to have the average hole size (0.215) subtracted from it to get center to center groups size. So, the bottom right is a 0.173" 50 yard group size. I'll take credit for the consistent hold with an 18X scope, but the ammo will have to take credit for where it makes a hole. With that ammo -- just pure luck!!
