What's your closest deer?

I walked up to one to about 20ft when I shot it. Only to find out latter that the neighbour in behind had been feeding these things. Oooopppps

3 feet, MANY years ago I was leaning against a little ballsome & 3 deer came up the hill right at me, so I never even wiggled my eyes & one went 3 ft on one side of me, that I did manage to shoot, the other two went about 6 ft to the other side of the tree & I did the unthinkable  the one & only time in my life I got "buck fever" I levered the 4 remaining bullets thru my old 303 Sav & never fired a round

About 3 feet, deer, was distracted by barrage of gunfire over the hill on a windy day of opening day of deer season. ( of course in my favor)
The doe was totally distracted and looking away from me,and I pulled a sneak on her, along a snowy drainage ditch, on the edge of a farmers field.
I literally shot her at this close range with my 308 bolt action. She never knew what hit her...
My buddy could not beleive his eyes.
Good day for me, bad for this deer.

I have had two at about 10 ft, one with a shotgun (slug) and one with a 30-06. One year I had a buck fawn walk up on the other side of a small spruce tree, my barrel was sticking through the tree and would have been almost a contact shot (to the head) but we where buck hunting. It figured out something wasn't right and backed off, he doesn't know how lucky he was

I think I have the prize. Point blank range.

It was with a pretty large "calibre" as well. A 5.7 litre Chev Suburban. Made that sucker bounce like Tigger 10 feet into the bush on the other side.

Two whitetails at "reach out and touch" range, one with muzzleloader and one with a 308, both ran towards me on trails and couldn't or wouldn't get out of the way. And one mule deer at about 20 feet that I stalked.

Missed a 30 yd shot because I had scope cranked up to 9x:redface: looked through scope nothing but hair and trees. he was doing about mach 6 by the time I figured it all out. Too bad, it was a pretty good buck.

Last week. 25 yards on a 4x4 whitetail buck with my 30-06. Walked out of the treeline a about 15 feet infront of me. I raised my gun but didnt have a decent shot as it was walking away. Lucky for me it didnt go too far. Turned completely sideways infront of me and almost posed while I flipped the saftey and pulled the trigger. Couldnt ask for a better shot.

That was a freebie for the year after passing up on a lot of smaller animals or less than ideal shots.

A couple year ago we saw a cow elk (when we didnt have a tag of course) when driving around. Range finded it at just over 300 yards to start with. Figured we'd see how close we could creep up on it in the truck. Got so close the range finder was reading between 6 feet and error. I still have the pic of my hunting friend holding his gun and smiling from the passeger seat while the elk was just behind him. Could have reached out and poked it with the end of the barrel.

I'm sure that elk didnt last the day. Had to be someone around who was looking for a freebie cow elk.

My longest shot deer ever was my first. An 8 point buck with my Sks 7.62x39 at 43 paces. My closest was a doe walking at me with my 6.5x55 svede. Of course I was looking in the opposite direction from where she was coming with my rifle cradled in my arms. When I saw her she was coming right to me feeding. When she dipped her head to browse, I brought up my gun a bit til she raised her head *FREEZE* She`d walk a few steps towards me then lower her head again...bring rifle up more til she lifted her head again *FREEZE* When she lowered her head this time I got the gun lined up and as was said I had to sight down the side of the barrel cause it was just a tan blur in the scope...Pulled the trigger at about 6 yards away.
The best part of this was she just let out a big sigh and laid down right where she was and died.

Mathematically speaking, it's hard to say...how close did I get to a deer that I smoked with my truck? 1/2 inch? 1/8 inch? ;)
