The vast majority of the grouse I've shot have been with a .22. Usually my Ruger 10/22 but a few others over the years. Head shots are the way to go. This past fall I did carry my .410 one day and got 2 spruce and one ruffed with it. I did pretty good keeping the pellets in the head/neck area but got 2 in the ruffed grouse breast meat. Wasn't happy about that.
