Wheeler Screwdriver set...junk or counterfeit ?

I have the 45 piece Wheeler Allen key set (with imperial, metric and torx) which had with 2 of the smallest imperial wrenches broken when it arrived. I emailed them, and they sent me a full set of imperial wrenches, not just the 2 broken pieces.

Good for you, that certainly wasn't the experience of a friend of mine. They sent him another bit (wrenches???) but only if he sent them the broken bit first.

Pretty expensive bit.

Ah man sorry to see you got burned by cheap tools...Wheeler does have a good rep, dont blame ya for trying that one even though its Chinesium

I use a small precision screwdriver from a set for watches or something like that for filler screws. Never marred one or scratched a rifle.

Not sure where its made but the set is old. "Borrowed" it from pops back in the day when I moved out lol

The screws on guns just seem to get messed up using regular bits.
I decided on this set as I didn't have one good enough for Leupold Base Windage Screws.
I like those bits from Brownells but hate ordering from USA, I have 3 packages (Boyd's, Brownells, Numrich) sitting in Montreal customs for weeks waiting on release

That was my thought, did the online customer service chat.
They don't get involved if it isn't a "sold" by Amazon item.
Told me to contact the seller who , surprise surprise hasn't returned my email

If the seller doesn't get back to you in the prescribed
time, contact Amazon again and they'll make it right. I just went through this and got it all resolved.

True statement! I had a similar problem and amazon contacted the vendor for me when they weren't replying to my messages. I heard from them quickly thereafter.

Actually they got back to me today.
It's past the 30 day return window and basically too bad.
First time I used it.
I guess no more buying anything before I need it.

Well, that's better than a poke in the eye with a hot stick or a kick in the azz with a pointed cowboy boot.

Its surprising what a squeaky wheel will get you. :)

Seeing as the product is junk, IMHO, in the first place. The effort and expense of sending them the twisted bit was just a nuisance and they had that angle figured out, again IMHO. Grinding my own is a way better option that I know the results can be trusted and fit correctly.

How much are your guns worth?
It's the inconvenience of tracing down individual screws.
In my my earlier post I mention that the envelopes spend weeks awaiting customs clearance.
Unfortunately experience has taught me that screw heads in guns are easily destroyed without the proper bits..
Worse is if you slip and damage the blueing.

Gun screws are notoriously soft. My cowboy guns which are constantly being taken apart and reassembled have all had the screws replaced with hardened sets. It’s so common that aftermarket hardened screw kits are available for specific cowboy guns

I have a starter kit of Chapman bits and like 5 are broken (bought it knowing this).
Right in the literature they say the bits will break before one mars the screws.
Stop twisting using the ham hocks one calls hands and you wont break the dam bits.
Go watch Art at Art's Gun Shop and see what he and his boys use for screw drives.
He even says he grinds them down to custom fit from brand new...
And the Wheeler Torque wrench works pretty good too almost as good as the $400 MAC in. pound torque wrench I use on occasion for a rifle but mostly on the M/C.
Tight Groups, not Broken Screws ;)
