Wheeler Screwdriver set...junk or counterfeit ?

I have never seen a slot head twist like cheese as the OP pic.

I have used powerfist, wiha, wera, mac tools, snap on, klein, as well as many no name brands.

I literally was holding the driver like a pencil, I watched it twist up like piece of licorice.
The the tiny eyeglass screwdriver from my craftsman set took it out.
Tiny little 8-40 filler plug for a scope base.
Didn't appear to have any thread sealer on it either

I bought a set of the flat-head gunsmith screwdrivers from Lee Valley and have been very happy with them

Those look nice , although I question the 4 Philips drivers, I don't think I've come across any Philips screws on any guns I've worked on

Those are actually very good screwdrivers and I have a couple of them in my menagerie. My only complaint is that they don't come in more sizes that are appropriate to gunsmithing.

FCD, there are some commercial rifles that used Philips head screws, mostly for sling and butplate retention.

I've found my #2 Crafstmen Philips is good for butt pads.
Forgot about those screws as no special bit is needed

Are the grace drivers ground and sized for gunsmith work ?, Or are the just generic drivers for household use ?

They’re decent, the few I wrecked were on smaller ones on stubborn screws. Screw slots are not standard so unless your lucky theses won’t fit or work on all your stuff. The tips are parallel ground though.

Chapman makes USA bit sets, snap-on has diamond impregnated bits, koken a Japanese brand has very good stuff.

If you look at cased gun sets those drivers aren’t readily available, those are made for that specific gun

Look for parallel or hollow ground, buy a decent brand and you’ll be fine
Breaking tools and bits will happen, doesn’t matter the brand

On the Phillips or “star” stuff. Japanese “jis” standard has probably screwed more than a few people if you work on atv, motorcycles, cars. Some of the Japanese brands are some of the only places to get tools that fit properly. Honda brake rotor screws. Vessel is the only USA brand I’m aware of.
