Whelans 7mm Rem mag thread

With a proper fitting stock i haven't found the 7mm mag to be a bad kicker, except in a light weight Salvage i sighted in. Good luck with the Remington.

Thanks bro, people do say that it wont be any more than the 180gr 30-06... so with a fresh recoil pad on it, it should be sweet, i will avoid but if have to, go a muzzle brake.. as i wont really be snap shooting this rifle.

phone call sounded all good in regards to the guns past, should have plenty left in it for me to get the hang of it!

When it rains it pours though-- Ute Rego due in 2 weeks i just got notified.. i'll be definatly shopping for hornady 139 btsp interlocks lol $$ .... budget month september for the Seve mil.

touch base soon Permits on the go so thats 7 days away min.
boo

Try a 140 TTSX and RL 22. I've had good results on game and great accuracy without a lot of load development headaches. At 3300 fps thereabouts.

same scenerio as varget an 2208? same stuff different sticker?

Exactly. 2206 is H4995, 2207 is H4198, Varget is 2208, 2209 is H4350, 2213 is H4831SC, 2217 is H1000, 2225 is Retumbo ( Retumbo means echo of thunder or sound of thunder, don’t remember which language) Thought I’d throw that one in for free. All ADI powders sold by Hodgdons.

haha Good on ya, that will make it alot easier, :D

So i wanna purchase a brand new scope maybe, while the 4-12 VX Freedom is on sale, $475 aud.. says normally $700 but i see some places are in the $640 bracket..

How is the 4-12 VX freedom? for me 7mm

VX freedoms are great for the money; I had a 3-9x40 on a 338/7mm RM and it held up well for recoil and eye relief. They remind me a lot of Vx II scopes, but the 3-9x is very compact.

i think thats what il do down the track for sure.

my permits arrived today, one for a 7rem mag and one a 243! beauty!

got some immediate issues gaining my attention in regards to a high country arial cull in the famed mtns of victoria, sambar country... on next week.
will duck down an pick up rifle before end of the coming week!

So late last night a Vortex 4-12 popped up on a facebk hunting buy swap sell page , i did a quick search an it seemed like it might be a good start into the 'dial' scope for the longer range i am expecting to use this rifle for.

its the Tactical 4-12x40 with the fancy reticle for windage an drop aswell?

any feed back first hand on this scope for my intentions?

thanks

had to come by an look at me 7RM, its due to turn up at the Gun store any day this week! tuesday wouldnt be off the cards- im keen as!

I don't have any experience with vortex scopes but I have vortex binoc's. I do know this "they have a good warranty". I'm sure your rifle and scope will work out well. The 7mm remington is an excellent cartridge.

Try N165 if using a 140gr bullet and IMR 4350 with the 160gr.Although N-165 kept 160gr under an inch the IMR 4350 was 1/2" or better in my gun at least.

ADI powders - Back ordered for monthsssss!!!!

may be able to get RE stuff but hear its temp sensitive? reloader 22 would be good for 162 gr?

what else should i be asking for gents??

bit of a dilemma, the rifle is in the Gun shop. i might get down tomorow or Definatly Friday

i got my hands on 500g of 2213sc ...... was chasing 2217- next time.

should be sweet for these 162 eld n sst projies! they will also arrive possibly later this week

Delay in major shooting will be the Scope from Queensland , expected to be later next week or so... spewing.

Rhys, I hope your 7mm Mag proves to be as accurate as mine is. I have an early 1980's production 700 BDL so chambered.

I was out a couple of days ago to verify 100-300M performance
1. Frontier [Hornady] cases, R-P 9½M primers, 150 grain Scirocco IIs, 63.2 grains of Vihtavuori N160. @100 .56"; @300 1.7"
2. R-P cases, CCI 250 primers, 160 grain Accubonds, 66.0 grains of Norma MRP, @ 100 .77", @300 2.8"
3. R-P cases, CCI 250 primers, 150 grain Nosler Partition, 64.2 grains of IMR 4831, @ 100 .92", @ 300 2.9"

Group sizes are the average of 3 - 3 shot groups.

These bullets all shot within 2" of each other at 300M, so I am ready to go. :) Dave.

Looks like a pair of flip flops is needed at he end of the stock. Hopefully more accurate than the .303. GL, nice rifle for sambar or any other critter that needs hunting down under.

ha ha the 303,,, its awesome literally under 150m bush stalken , not to its full potential by any means but it works in that #1 i spose....
this other end of spectrum, dont really wanna poke many holes under that 150m with it, an would like to gain 150 with it over the 7-08 setup.

This feels to make sense, also to cart over to the NZ alps! tahr huntin for sure. an everyone agrees a mint Red stag cartridge!

sambars will not like it either- i know where im going to take it once i get it loaded and sorted out, a big gulley where i can see 500m across, an they are often 300m or so. im gettin low of meat an am chasing some ribs !

Dave thats quite a handy combo to have !! i wont have a group like that i can tell you LOL :) thanks for the info, i got 9 1/5 primers, looks like mostly a mix of brass..... some in poor condition... the better condition is Nickel? FC bras..... whats ya thoughts on reloadin these? 26x

the other is Super and RP.... 12x super.... an 30 usable RP... bit of a let down but cant win em all, would only need a proper clean but i dont have stuff for it. will save up an get some new brass soon.

i also got not 2217 but 2213sc - how do you think this will go for the 26 in barrel?

the rifle has about .200 from the end of the case until the bullet hits the rifling.

normal an stuff? looking forward to gettin the projectiles now, i just sat a 140 ppsn upside down to get the 'freebore' i call it anyway lol.

front end with a 6 inch sprter feels quite good hey! im liking the choice of rem 700, takes me back to my 270 days (same rifles) and the weight feels like it wont boot ? too badly. i will upgrade that recoil pad shortly.
