Last time I went to Grandma's house (Espanola), Burwash was still there. Just had a new fence installed or some such.
CFB Petawawa has a range too, at least 600m on the rifle..maybe 900. To access it, when I was there, you joined the CFB Petawawa Long Range shooting club (with a further membership to the CFB Pet Rec Association) and you could use the range with an approved RSO (most of the club members were approved) and the cell phone/Motorola supplied from Range control. This club may have since ceased operation. The real long range of the tank range (25km deflection template) of Juliet, Hotel and Worthington (I think) towers were also, in theory, available. These included Thermal, moving and moving thermal targets out to 3.5km (I'm not a tank gunner..but the Coyote can reach out and touch the targets at 2.2km)
The main reason that Canadian Military ranges are dropping in distance is that our current service rifle has a maximum accurate range of 300m for individual fire and 600m for group fire. We do not practice group fire very often and use the MG range when we do.
