Where are the Sako rifles ?

The last few years Sako Sales have been slow compared to the the last 5 years before that. It seems there is a lot of variety for $2K plus nowadays here in old Canada! Love the old Sako's, I have a few, but other than the Grizzly,Grey Wolf the only models that even peek my interet?
Sako also seems to not put Canada as there number one priority now, since The US is there top seller now! Most dealers don't even get there guns till February, a little late for hunting season, if they even show up?
Sako Canada needs to get there act together!!!

that's it...I have a buddy ordered a T3 fluted stainless 7mm over a year ago. Dealers have been telling him that they don't know when their orders will show or what will be in them. They get the leftovers after filling the big market orders...

During the Annual Shot Show is when gun dealers have to place their orders for certain manufactured firearms, in particular Sako being one of them. They are manufactured overseas where strict quality control standards are followed to produce a quality firearm and regulated under proof stamping by government. Sako is not one of your POS Savages/Remingtons that are mass produced just to make a buck. I prefer a company to take their time and make a good quality firearm then to rush through it........patience is a virtue for quality, and the same would apply for hunting.

what exactly does that have to do with dealers not getting their full orders or knowing what will be in them because the big market orders are filled first?
I would bet there have been at least a couple of the exact rifles that my pal ordered, produced in the last year +.
It's not a special order rifle, it's a production model.
The fact that none of them made it here is the issue for him.
I don't recall saying anything about their quality either. My L61R was one of the finest quality rifles I've owned.
Finland...overseas? do tell
But ya he should feel blessed if it shows up at all...

What delays orders is the time to manufacture quality firearms plus Finland is overseas (Scandinavia). Stoeger Canada is the biggest distributor for Sako rifles and it also depends on them how far they want to push Sako to produce their product. A custom/special order will not decrease the wait time on a firearm and will arrive with the main order. There are some independent dealers who order directly from Sako, but that doesn't mean that a firearm will arrive in Canada in less time. Like I mentioned in a prior post, Savages et al POS firearms are manufactured in the USA in high volume for the quick buck, quality firearms take time. You did mention that Canada receives leftovers, well someone has to get them first, therefore the largest order is filled (USA), so stand in line and be patient. If you or buddy want a said Sako, then don't place a Canadian order, wait for the USA to receive their shipment, choose your firearm, pay the dealer and have (pay) a Canadian gun broker import the item.

I know where the iron is built, and that like good food, it takes time.
I honestly don't think there is any "pushing" Sako to do anything for our small market, and that's probably a contributing factor.
It all comes down to supply and demand. They supply the bigger demand first, it's only good business, and I get that too.
I'm just passing on what the dealer(s) told him.
I actually suggested importing to him but the added cost was a little overboard for him.

As said above, Sako only produces so many rifles, as you're paying for strict Q/C. If you want mass produced US-made crap (yes, there are some exceptions), look elsewhere. Canada is certainly not their big market, and as such, only so many make it here. It has been like that for years. Another thing worth noting, again, is that looking for quality rifles just after hunting season is an excercise in futility. I got my latest Sako from Lebaron in the middle of the summer.

From experience you need to scavenge hunt sporting goods stores from all across canada to find the exact model+caliber you want. You might actually be saving money from buying outside your province because you will only be paying one tax. I believe stoeger only gets one shipment from Finland per year and most stores only get their orders partially received so when you find exactly what you want jump on it even it's 100-200$ more expensive then what another store is listing it for.

Lots of dealers have some on their shelves.
What is it that you are looking for so we can help out? That would be a a lot more fun than watching these guys pontificate into oblivion trying to look knowledgable........

Yes.. do tell, I bet we could find one or at least be pretty darned close.

I bought my first new one it was 273.oo tax in from Reliable Gun 7mm rem.mag. I was told by a gunsmith Ted Hanson they were the best rifle out of the box this man was the go to guy for BC and the smith for H&Haywood . I just cleanned out the safe over the last year down to 22-250,2506,two 280s and two 375H&Hs the sako 85 lam. 375 i am thinking of selling just broke in now . i love the av sakos. It was hard not to buy the tr42 but the bravo 98 did things for me yuha so to speak .Sako is a sako never go wrong as it is only monney be happy

Some guys - who don't appreciate quality - will say that a Sako is over priced, but that is just not the case. They are one of the finest rifles you can get for the money.

From my experience most gun stores tend to drift toward lower priced rifles because let's face it - most people don't want to spend any more than they have to. Any gun store can order a Sako for you, just pick one out from the Sako web site and have your local dealer bring it in. You will never be sorry to have a Sako in the closet. If you ever decide to sell it just have a look on EE and you'll see how few are posted and how quickly they are sold.

Indeed, take a look at Prophet. I was in there just before Christmas and they had quite a few.

Prophet's my goto store in Lloyd. Always helpful, informative, and the service is top notch IMO.

Prophet River is my new 'go to store' and I live in Ontario. Service like theirs (Clay) is NOT easy to find. Top notch, and Highly recommended by me. This is a 'class' dealer. period.
