Which do you prefer, mossberg or Remington?

There's a pill for that ...

There is, but why should you have to hone a brand new shotgun? It's clear that Remington knows about the issue and refuses to correct it. Oddly enough, my Chinese "Dominion Arms" 870 clone did not suffer this problem. My Mossberg never had any problems, though the action was slightly less smooth than an 870.

Remington for me.

I have a 20" 590A1 but the safety is acting up and the gun is too heavy so it's a paperweight to me now.

I have a 14" 590A1 too which is cool, but I just don't like the location of the safety or the action release. Parkerized guns drive me nuts too.

If the 14" drives you crazy, you could always just sell it to me. I have a 20" blackwater 590A1, and now I want a short version too.

Offer him $2000 and I'm sure he'll sell it to you... or go buy the 14" kit for $400 and have both to swap them when you want to.

The finish shows scratches and marks easily...

Not if you let it absorb grease like you're supposed to.

Anyways, it sure would be nice with both the 870P and the 590A1, if they'd tone down the thickness of the barrels, and substitute better grade of steel to retain the durability.

the majority of tactical shotguns appear to have a parkerized finish.

I really hesitate to even call parkerizing a "finish".
More like they were too lazy and/or cheap to actually put a finish on the gun.

It has no more rust resistance than a piece of bare metal.

I'm tempted to just spray paint my parkerized 870 with high-temp manifold paint.

Use grease and bake it in, a heavy waxy grease like Cosmoline is ideal, once you do that you have a finish that seems to be almost as scuff resistant as Cerakote and is perhaps even more corrosion resistant.

My only beef with Parkerizing is that its pretty rough, even saturated with grease, not ideal for surfaces like the exterior of the magazine tube that effect the smoothness of the action.

I'm sure it's been written in this thread but I like the tear down of the 870 to the 590. I'm being humble as I have had one Mossberg 500 on my day and have a few 870P's. I find the 870 to be a far simpler gun. I do like that Mossberg makes it easier to open the chamber with my thumb while I change my grip with the 870.

The way I see it, try shooting both. You may prefer the safety location of the 590 or the ###y sleek lines of the 870.

Purchased a Police and just can't look back.
