Which hunting rifle do you love to hate?

I went through the first 8 pages of this topic, and I am stunned.

Does everybody like the M70? HOW?! I would rather fondle a POS Savage 111 tang safety than that stupid thing they build on the bolt. How can you even call a T3 over priced when you have an f'in m70 sitting in your safe?!

I agree totally. I think the model 70 is the most overrated American rifle made (right after the '03 Springfield that is). The crap Winchester put out from 1964 through the late 80s says it all. A model 70 in .30-06 topped with a cheap 4X is almost a requirement for the Fudds in this area.

The model 94 (before the new crossbolt safety, ) is, in my opinion, a dangerous gun.

While cycling the action, there is a moment when the lever is just closing the bolt, that a finger or a little glove leather in the wrong place will touch off an unintended shot.
While levering the cartridges out to empty the magazine, this could happen during any one of the cycles. A nervous or excited " ClackclackDidjaseethesizeofthatdeer?clackclackLet'sgetbackintheclackclacktruckandseeifheheadsnorthclackclackacrosstheBOOM." will at best leave the ears ringing. A blind box magazine may share this problem, but likely has a safety that can be on while cycling the cartridges out. A clip type removable box magazine is safer yet.

The half-#### safety is weak - and a broken one is deadly. Do you remember to put it on half-####?

Decocking is a dangerous operation with cold fingers, wet gloves, young fingers, lady fingers, and more so with a combination of these.

Decocking is necessary after loading a cartridge into the chamber, and after checking the chamber to see if it is loaded, and after shooting one shot and chambering another.

The lever safety is released by any pressure on the lever - like say resting the gun over a branch or bench or laying it on anything or just carrying it over the crook of the arm or one handed. It is not specific, like the beavertail safety on a handgun that requires a more unique force. Besides that, the lever safety does tend to get sticky and not work.

There are lots of other problems with the 94, like the force required to load through that little gate, the fuss to unload, the brutal steel butt plate and the upward kick because of the amount of drop in the stock and last but certainly not least is the ever present noise of the action.

Loading and unloading are a bother so the 94 tends to stay loaded when it should be unloaded.

Offsetting these faults, yet making them more dangerous, because these beauties make the gun a go-to favourite, are the compact size and handling - it is more comfortable to carry because of the small cross-section of the rifle - it fits right, and it handles quick, although cycling is slower than lots of actions.

This is getting long winded like cowboy on beans, but cowboy logic would likely tell a person to set cowboy fantasies aside and get a safer gun.
This is simply uninformed conjecture. If you want to see a slippery hammer try a BLR.

I'm surprised the T3 Lite made it into the mix so soon in the thread...sure, maybe it's not the most loved piece, but still, there must be many others ahead of it on the "hate list"....

I am surprised too. Although the T3 is not the same as the 595 or the 695 I still think it is great rifle for the money both in construction and accuraccy.

I have never been a fan of North American made arms as the European made rifles always seem to be more to my liking.

Now that said I now own a Savage, which is on the list about page 2, that I would not trade for the world. It isn't new ( 1991) but is pure awesome.

For me I would agree with the guys that said the Rem 710's or even go as far as I would not even buy or look at a newer Remington, hate is a little strong but I don't like any of them.

As far as the W70, I have not had good experiences, but I know personally, people who swear by them.

I found Rugers to be awesome guns to paddle canoes with, then when you get to the other side shoot a Moose.

New favorite Ruger's Gunsite Scout in .308

Least favorite anything that has a hinged floorplate and NO clip... retarded

So I guess no one's tried the savage edge with it's crisp 14 pound trigger and stellar recycled plastic stock that flex's to the touch. I would be better off with a sling shot

1. Ruger. I won't own one.
2. Benelli. They must have a patent on ugly. I do own a Super Nova pump. It is the ugliest firearm to have ever graced the threshold of my safe.

Most definitely agree about Benelli. Even Mossberg is not capable of producing as many different models of eyesores as Benelli, and at least with Mossberg you don't have to spend a lot of money to own a truly hideous rifle. I don't mind some of the shotguns made by Benelli, but their rifles are all abortions as far as looks go I.M.O.(that said, I bet they shoot well but I'll never own one due to their looks).

O.K. funny stuff, especially the Mod.70 bashing. I'm fine with anyones choices in guns. I will say that I picked up a T/C single shot at a shop one day and couldn't believe guys fire high power rounds outa that cheesy thing. But then some guys like Remingtons too. Hahahaha

Wow, can't understand so many guys who won't take a free rifle!

Me, I don't fall into a rut, I moved in and furnished it years ago.

Dislikes
Tactical that is overdone with gadgets, rails, and bottle openers
Many modern arms quality control, I buy old guns only now
Stainless and plastic, excellent properties just too stodgy to buy one
Scopes, yes I really am that outdated
Camouflage rifles and anything else, I wear real bright stuff because too many hunters aren't too bright regarding safety

Sorry, starting to drift

Likes
Guns made of quality steel and wood, haven't broke one yet
Lever actions including the BLR, currently own a Win 92 and 94, 444 Marlin
Lee Enfield No.5, puts the Ruger Gunsight to shame at half the price and twice the toughness
Peep sights
Free rifles, any make or caliber

Like they say, one man's meat another man's poison.

Anything tactical, especially if it has attachments for lights, or various other add on crap. Some people play too many video games.

Same here, although I recently bought a R700 XCR Tactical Long Range. My first venture outside of wood and blued steel. Time will tell if I can get used to the synthetic and black s/s.

Actually, I prefer stainless/synthetic, it's the add on crap like folding stocks, flashlight mounts, muzzle brakes, etc that people add on that I have no use for.
