Which hunting rifle do you love to hate?

A few comments -

1. Ive personally not been around long enough to develop 'hatred' for any gun. Sights yes, certain features sure, but not guns.

2. If someone hates their gun enough they want it gone, PM me. Hells, Ill even pay shipping. Free gun = good gun to me.

3. the post 64 Winchester hate. Hmm. Well, my mod 94 1972 Winchester (according to serial #) is plainly stamped, "MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN, USA" and despite being treated less than proper at times as proven itself reliable and accurate. my Mod 70 1979 .308 has also yet to give ANY trouble. (I am still working sighting it in perfectly mind.)

4. "Cheap" guns. I have a Savage 187H, and I have to agree, while it is rather consistently accurate, its internals are, seemingly, cheaply done and very, very prone to fouling. Ive torn the gun down twice in 1000 rounds. That being said, I think the second time was due to the ubercheap Winchester rounds I used. Conversely, the Cooey 12 gauge break open (I forget which mod exactly) single Shot 12 gauge that i bought, jammed, for $40 was reliable and accurate (for a shotgun) after I rebuilt it. Cause of jam was the extractor tooth at the bottom of the barrel being seized in the out position. Once found, easy fix.

5. Enfield hate. Eh? Especially the comment of the bolt being stiff. my 1944 has a lighter bolt action to it than my Tula, for shyits sake. ....Well ok, Maybe a bad example comparing a British war rifle to a Russian target rifle. But you get the drift.

6. 30.06 hate. Eh?? I wil agree, the round is rather brutal on a novice's shoulder, But Ill take that for the knowledge what I hit is very likely gonna stay down; and its range is quite good as well.

7. I had the opportunity to hold and action (not fire) a Ruger .270 left hand bolt at Canadian Tire. Ive heard mixed reviews about the Ruger, but I have been trying to keep neutral as much as possible. What I found, with that particular gun, was the action felt like two sheets of sandpaper. Not what i would want from a NEW gun. It may of just been that particular gun, but it's kinda turned me off the brand till I hold a few more.

8. Remington. Their rounds in .22 are fecking garbage. their guns? I had 870 to play with at the skeet range, and I couldnt hit the broadside of a barn with it. I didnt like the feel, an d im not too sold on semi auto shotguns/rifles.

9. Henry's 'bullhorn' sights on their Golden Boy 22. What in hells was Henry thinking?! My Tula's factory sights were dramatically better than that, these Henry sights are cheap pieces of tin that slop all over the place. What a way to ruin an otherwise gorgeous, smooth .22.

As for the rest? I will learn as I go along I suppose.

Anything tactical, especially if it has attachments for lights, or various other add on crap. Some people play too many video games.

And to top it all off...... Put a zombie logo on it! What the FRICK! How old are the people that are buying these things? And what's the next craze going to be? Maybe Vampire slaying rifles. And why not? It's no worse than this Zombie fad. Makes gun owners look like a bunch of childish morons. Resale value in 5 years=$0

My two cents. G

I may have posted before in this thread but I just can't resist.

I'll hopefully never own a Savage, Browning, or Mossberg. I've seen and heard good things about all of them but it's like ketchup or salt & vinegar chips; I just don't like them.

Hmmmmm, it's almost becoming what rifle do you like? :D

Hate anything Remington. I won't even buy ammo or a cheap camo hat that says Remmy on it.

Hate the cheap stocks on Savages, and I feel the bolt isn't very smooth. Kinda makes me think twice about buying another one.

Mossbergs just seem too cheap to me now for some reason. I've shot Mossy shotguns all my life, and can now barely stand them. I dont know why, but the "Chainsaw" grip shotgun they produce or the tactical lever action might have something to do with it. Just picturing those 2 guns is making my stomach turn.

Marlin is on the list simply because they WERE nice rifles, but since the Marlingtons have been producing horrible firearms, I'm afraid to buy one. Which really troubles me because I want Model 1895 45-70 in the worst way!

Thompson Centers, simply because I think a crack barrel single shot is ridiculous in a hunting situation. This is simply preference, cause deep down, I'm not a big fan of anything that doesn't have a DBM.

I'm gunna go light up a cigar and have a drink and calm down now...

I dislike economy rifles in injection molded plastic stocks, plastic/polymer detach magazines, white pot metal or plastic trigger guards and obvious cost saving production parts. They all work, with sometimes fantastic results but lack the 'quality' feel to me.

And although chambering wasn't asked, I have absolutely no love for the .308 or 7mm-08 purely for the fact that they cannot match their long action competitors .280/30-06 with heavy for caliber bullets.
