Which of your shotguns would you choose if you needed to legally shoot down a small drone?

You cant be serious!?
My punk a$$ neighbour kid’s little mavic mini spying on my daughter and her friends in the pool is equivalent to an airplane!?
"The Law is an ass."

In the pool? That kid needs a drowning lesson; suggest you glue the drone to the bottom of the pool and demand he swim down and retrieve it.

Yes, you could be charged for shooting down your own drone. The Transport Canada regulations do not distinguish between aircraft that are yours or not yours.

Post up vids of you violating federal law at your own risk.

US Law: Under the U.S. Code Title 18, Section 32, it is a federal crime to damage or destroy an aircraft. This law extends to drones, as they are classified as aircraft by the FAA. Violating this law can result in up to 20 years in prison and significant fines. Additionally, the FAA has made it clear that shooting down a drone is a federal offense, and they have the authority to enforce these regulations.

CDN Law: I couldn't find a specific citation for CDN law but did find this comment on Reddit FWIW - Shooting a drone out of the sky is a criminal offence, as it is defined by Transport Canada that shooting a drone down is akin to shooting an aircraft with a pilot on board.

So YES, shooting down a drone is a serious crime the Fed Govt will / can treat the same as if you shot down a piloted aircraft. Don't complain to me, I didn't make the laws. Just telling you what the laws are. You may think the laws are stupid and shooting down a little drone is a lark but I can guarantee you the govt does not. Govern yourself accordingly.
Not to nitpick here but your standing to “guarantee” anything is pretty flimsy.

Thankfully, Reddit is not the arbiter of law in canada or anywhere else for that matter.

Drones that fall under the 250g limit are not considered aircraft as far as I understand things. They require no special licence or training, quite unlike drones over 250g.

Thanks but I will take my legal advice elsewhere. Im not claiming to know it inside and out but clearly, your authority to speak from the bench is unfounded.

I'm surprised nobody has made a reproduction of the Peiper goose gun.

It sounds like the low-end drones are cheap enough to almost be considered expendable, especially if bought by the case from Alibaba. Are they controllable enough to ensure that they won't accidentally collide with the nuisance drones?

In any urban environment this would be a bad idea, Battlefield is a different kettle of fish and is being proven as a waste of ammo and effort.

The range of a shotgun is minimal and if the drone is travelling at 100km an hour, within range, and by sheer luck, you hit it, you should be more worried about what happens to the drone, what's its payload. Shooting a drone carrying explosives or biological agents will trigger those payloads, and the shot or slugs will hit unintended targets if you miss.

But from a hypothetical fantasy scenario shooting down a cheap radio scrap drone within range, any shotgun will do.

You know that pigeons can fly up to 100 km/hr and they jink and weave when they know they are being shot at, and they know when they are being shot at. A drone operator mostly doesn't know the drone is being shot at. In comparison a drone would be easy pickings.

Shooting down a drone that is bird sized or bigger and doesn't engage in defensive maneuvers would be relatively easy with a proper shotgun.

The videos you are seeing in UKR of drones being unsuccessfully are all with assault rifles. There are few videos showing shotguns in use.

You really want to explode a drone as far away from you as possible.

With a magtube extension, 3.5" 12 ga magnum shells would get it done. Turkey loads can reach way out there when properly choked.

Bingo! (y) The 835 I put together was the best patterning shotgun I've ever had for clays out past 60 yds at the meat shoots using plain jane
field & range loads from CT and Walmart. For small, hobby drones I'd go with 3", 1 7/8 oz with #2 or #4 lead shot. I'd also be well camo'd
to hide me identity.

Two Tavor TS12, one left handed, one right handed, mounted together in a pedestal mount similar to the M63 anti aircraft mount for the .50 cal machine gun using specially made #6 tungsten tracer shot.
