who makes a high end rimfire?

Were it me I would custom order a remmington 40x sporter from the custom shop and send them the wood blank of my choice. Very few of these are leaving the factory these days and they are one of the few north American rifles that can keep up with the European target rifles regarding accuracy. 3-3500 price range. Not high but not cheap either.

I was going to do that myself, but Remington no longer builds the 40X Sporter .They only make the 547 at this time.

I want a Zastava or a CZ bolt action .22WMR. Those are real nice quality. If you want an auto, CZ makes one for .22LR. Those browning SA-22s are real nice too, but it's tube fed through the butt stock. I prefer the magazine fed like the CZs and Zastavas. The Zastavas are just as quality as the CZs, but the mags only hold 5 rounds and they're very expensive and hard to find.

That's too bad. I inquired about this a few months back and thought I could still get a 40x. I wanted a 14 inch barrel and they would only make a 16 inch, something to do with the sbr regulations. Did you talk to the custom shop?

I was on the Custom Shop web site, and the 40X Sporter is no longer there. I also talked to a couple of dealers, who told me that the last 40X Sporter model was discontinued recently. The last version was a single shot with classic stock, whereas I want a BDL style repeater. I would gladly pay $3500 for a new 40X Sporter Repeater. but the few unfired ones that are around are selling for more than that, if you can find one.

I would call the custom shop, you never know what they have laying around. I just landed a twin to your 1907r, because a few spare receivers were laying around and they wanted to make use of them so one request was all it took. Remington might just surprise you. Talk to god not the angels so to speak.

Had a chance shooting an Anschutz, they are something else, they could be #1 and no surprise there... JP.

Me too. It had a hair trigger and less recoil than an air rifle.
It made me look good and I'm right-handed, left-eye dominant (for handguns. Rifles, I have to use my right eye.)

For those who have a leaning toward the older BSA Martini-actioned rifles like the MkII International and suchlike, it's a pity that you don't live here in UK. About five years ago a local builder bought just under two tons of them to use as hard-core on a garage forecourt.

A few years back I bought a left-hand action Mk11, in very fine order, with a complete set of Al Freeland micrometer tube mounts and sights [it uses the Unertl alloy POSA micrometer mounts, and yes, they all came with it], and a little plastic box containing ten of each and every Anschutz foresight element, for the sum of ÂŁ55 - about Can$95 now. Shux, fergot to mention the genuine LH Parker-Hale precision micrometer rear sight in the box of bits that came with it.

A year later I bought the RH version, but this one had a custom thumbhole laminated stock made by the owner - that was whole lot more though - ÂŁ65.00.

Anybody interested can see them on the gallery of the Vintage Classic Rifle Association of Ireland website [www.vcrai.com] of if you email me via pm. [see thread - TAC's BSA Martini MKII]

Personally, I find that saving a lot of money is a vast improvement on spending a lot of money.

My Can$0.02.

On the other paw, your rich pal can do what the boss of Desert Tactical Arms here in UK did - he had a Hall action custom-built to replicate the 7.62NATO AI action in every respect except calibre, mated to a top of the range Bartlein barrel, dropped into a custom-modified AICS folding stock, AI bipod and butt-spike and a Schmidt & Bender PMII stuck on top - for around $11,000.

Just because he could.

Shoots almost as well as my 50-year old BSA with its x18 Unertl.

High-end rimfires

Because you mentioned Cooper and Kimber, I believe you're thinking sporters. Here are my two suggestions:

1. "NULA" New Ultralight Arms makes a very interesting sporter that mirrors a Rem 700 action. $1350usd + import costs - http://www.newultralight.com/
Available with optional Jewell trigger.

2. If I had limitless money - a Hall repeater action:http://www.hallmfg.com/html/spbrrimfire.html
mated to a Lilja barrel with a Canyon Creek full option build stock - http://www.canyoncreekgunstocks.com/Store/ProductList.asp?Category=Anschutz Replacement
The Hall build would run $4000+ but IMO really leaves nothing to desire!

Just do it!

If you want something with a high level of engraving, smooth action and almost unparalleled accuracy, Cooper can make a customized rifle for your friend. It wouldn't be too difficult to drop 10k on one of their custom guns. Many of their basic models start at $2000, and go way up when adding things like engraving and high grade walnut stocks.
