For those who have a leaning toward the older BSA Martini-actioned rifles like the MkII International and suchlike, it's a pity that you don't live here in UK. About five years ago a local builder bought just under two tons of them to use as hard-core on a garage forecourt.
A few years back I bought a left-hand action Mk11, in very fine order, with a complete set of Al Freeland micrometer tube mounts and sights [it uses the Unertl alloy POSA micrometer mounts, and yes, they all came with it], and a little plastic box containing ten of each and every Anschutz foresight element, for the sum of ÂŁ55 - about Can$95 now. Shux, fergot to mention the genuine LH Parker-Hale precision micrometer rear sight in the box of bits that came with it.
A year later I bought the RH version, but this one had a custom thumbhole laminated stock made by the owner - that was whole lot more though - ÂŁ65.00.
Anybody interested can see them on the gallery of the Vintage Classic Rifle Association of Ireland website [
www.vcrai.com] of if you email me via pm. [see thread - TAC's BSA Martini MKII]
Personally, I find that saving a lot of money is a vast improvement on spending a lot of money.
My Can$0.02.
On the other paw, your rich pal can do what the boss of Desert Tactical Arms here in UK did - he had a Hall action custom-built to replicate the 7.62NATO AI action in every respect except calibre, mated to a top of the range Bartlein barrel, dropped into a custom-modified AICS folding stock, AI bipod and butt-spike and a Schmidt & Bender PMII stuck on top - for around $11,000.
Just because he could.
Shoots almost as well as my 50-year old BSA with its x18 Unertl.
