I've found the browning gold to be a more balanced and softer shooting gun with better ergos. Just my experience. However a fine sxs 10ga is where it's at. My sxs doesn't quite live up the the fine part but it works 100% and hammers what ever I point it at. I love the gun but it's just a very plain wildfowler model. I'm actually thinking of using it for my next bear hunt. It handles better than my bps stalkerSP10 one word " THUNDER " best 10 out there ! nothing comes close.
Yeah I found the same with mine. I found it a little long for me and the recoil pad that was on it might as well been cut off an old spare tire. I had the butt shortened by an inch and a Pachmar decelerator fitted and the gun was much better after that.I have had a BPS previously, it was a solid specimen as noted above. That thing didn’t fit me well, and beat me every time I shot it. I was sold on the 10gauge the first time a buddy and I put a paper plate up in a tree to “check pattern” and from 40 yards away it totally decimated the 2” poplar. It was incredible to see.
After I sold that I had a hard time finding another until I found an H&R single shot. It has much less recoil than the BPS did and handles much easier. I took it out on a couple goose hunts with buddies just for giggles, and it actually does an amazing job. There was 1 time in 2 outings I would have liked one more shot. Like mentioned a few times, it crushes birds WAY out there, I had a shock factor a few times as they just folded up and dropped.
Oh, and it absolutely dusts clays. lol.
I would like to pickup an SP10 one day, but funds are tied up other places in the mean time.
At a Lil over 11lbs it's not bad. Spanish made 32" barrels and a forend that's equal to an actual beavers tail lol the balance is quite good. You never stop your swing once you get it moving10 gauge double you need arms like Popeye to handle that thing ! a SP 10 or a Browning Gold it is not.
I admit it's been getting heavier as I get older but my bps is not as comfortable to shoot. It's long receiver and 28" barrel make it swing like a 2x6That is over a pound heavier than my 26 inch SP10 and that 32 inch double must be a bear to handle over decoys. I would need a bipod to handle that baby.
Your Sp 10 should weigh 10.7 pounds and be 47" long. A 32" 10 gauge SXS would be very close to the same length despite the difference in barrel length. The fact that theres no action like your semi requiring over 7 inches for the action makes the two almost the same in weight and length, however the third shot is a bonus but watching Brynen shoot it wouldnt really matter. An excellent gunner!!The BPS has always been a stone in my books but that is only my opinion not a fact. That double 10 sxs in a kayak would be akin to a punt gun I would think. I remember handling a 32 inch 10 double gun as a kid I can see the interest but a cannon buy any description. Have fun with it.
Down my way the season limit is only 2 canada geese per day (except the early season) so a sxs works just fine. If I had that 3rd shot my buddy could only take 1 goose.Your Sp 10 should weigh 10.7 pounds and be 47" long. Sorry I can’t remember if it is a sp-10 or what model it is …but I bought new and all I buy is browning…benelli …weatherby10 gauge double you need arms like Popeye to handle that thing ! a SP 10 or a Browning Gold it is not.
For sure. The 10s pattern larger shot much better. Ppl who haven't used a ten just can't grasp the difference it makes. I shoot bb bbb and t shot from my 10s. You can hear the t shot smack geese at 50 yards and they just fold even out to 60 yards. If using smaller shot it's just throwing more shot than a 12 generally. A double does allow one barrel of steel 4s and a barrel of bbb for times when you don't know what is going to fly by.I guess it is more about the gauge than what gun you choose to shoot . A 10 makes steel loads and large shot workable but in the lead shot days 2 oz of plated #4 shot were easy on recoil and would kill most anything a long way out. The 10 s a unique animal for sure.
Triple B steel is the bomb gets the job done in my books I even use them on high flying puddle ducks. For sure. The 10s pattern larger shot much better. My buddies laugh when I start shooting doves with my ten when the geese aren't flying. #4 steel is overkill for doves but I can't taste overkill
I don't know, I didn't find my Spanish sxs 10 any heavier than my Ithaca road blocker. But they balanced very differently. - dan10 gauge double you need arms like Popeye to handle that thing ! a SP 10 or a Browning Gold it is not.
