Who wants a non-restricted Beretta CX4 Storm?

Well it's a little late for a snack, but it looks like I'm eating #### on this.

After serious reading I have seen the light.
A pistol mag is a pistol mag UNLESS it is marked CX4.
It also looks like a barrel change to make it a non restricted is also an easy hurdle.

I'll clear a spot in the safe for one tomorrow.

the storm

any idea where I could find one of these combos I took a look the non restricted sounds so nice and in 9mm cheep too and any idea of cost?

 go get yourself a CX4 Storm while people still have them in stock. (I know Williams Arms in Port Perry, ON has them. I'm sure others do too.) Boy will they sell out fast when people find out about the replacement barrels. Buy all the Beretta 92 mags you can find.

Get the gun now and wait for the new barrels to arrive. No time frame or cost yet. I'll be speaking to the guy tommorow to go over the cost and time.

He asked if I wanted a Match Barrel, 1 in 14 twist, heavy, bull or standard profile...

I would guess stay with the standard barrel to keep it lightweight. Even with a match grade bull barrel and match grade ammo can 9mm really be very accurate anyway?

I had a HK94 which was a restricted firearm years ago, and you could deregister it as a restricted by putting a barrel extension on it or a long flashhider that was pinned and soldered in place. so it began non restricted, I'm wondering if the CFC would allow this instaed of a new barrel?

Nopers... Also talked to the CFO about that, but it's not really anything new. Welding anything to the end of the barrel that is greater in OD then the bore and/or is not rifled, does not count towards the barrel length. The only reason to weld on a long flash hider or fake silencer is to make the Overall Length greater, to comply with the 26" OAL. Mostly if you've put a folding stock on or something and the OAL turned out shorter then 26".

By the looks of the storm now, it's a fairly heavy barrel under the guards then tapers to a skinny profile. I think the skinny barrel looks kinda dumb. Get a heavier profile.

The barrel on the Cx4 is already too long, I'd cut it shorter. Being restricted is a bonus so you CAN cut the barrel down.

To what benefit could one use a longer barrel with a pistol round? What could you seriously hunt that a 250$ 10/22 can't?

If you don't like the longer barrel, can you register the gun back to Restricted class?

I think this is a mistake. It's like putting laces on a bowling ball.

You'd be further ahead applying for a restricted licence.

"Laces on a bowlin' ball".... I need to rememberthat one

Yeah... get off yer duff and get a restricted PAL. The more of us , the better!

He might have had the restricted license to buy the rifle before converting it. You can't use a restricted firearm anywhere but the range, and even transporting it is greatly "restricted". I can see a lot of reasons to want a non-restricted semi-auto rifle that is cheap to shoot with a large mag capacity... isn't that part of why rimfires are so popular?

Of course I have my restricted PAL. Check my other posts for my SW99 and my SW PC 945.
The point in making it non-restricted: EVERYTHING. I don't belong to a club. I like to just go plinking with my friends (see videos posts). Can't plink with a restricted. 10 rounds of something more powerful then my 10/22 is a bonus. I can't wait for the .45acp Storm as well, i'll be doing the same thing with it. Easier transportation. The list goes on.
My 8" Ruger 10/22 with it's 50 round mags is still fun.

Info on the barrel coming tommorow! Looks like it's all a go! Info info info soon. (Just for reference, it'll be a "heavy" profile, fluted, blued, 1 in 14 twist, standard chamber.)

Last week the CFC issued a new FRT that specifically addresses the use of handgun magazines in the Storm. (Sorry, I can't find a posting of the new information anywhere on-line, but I saw the document at Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.) The bottom line is that it is now perfectly legal to use ten-round magazines with this firearm *only*. I suspect that it's only a matter of time before a similar FRT is issued for the Ruger PC9 and PC40. Finally, a 9mm subgun where we can shoot more than five at a time, with a magazine that doesn't cost $200. Sold! :D

Not to confuse the issue, but I see that Beretta is offering a coupon for two high-capacity magazines, if you purchase a Storm before October 31st. (http://www.berettausa.com/product/promotions/92_96_cx4_promo/92_96_cx4_promo.htm) Of course, this offer only applies to our neighbours to the south, and only if the Clinton 'Assault Weapon' ban isn't renewed on September 15th. Hmmm...I wonder if they'd send us poor Canadian folks a couple of ten-round magazines instead? What the heck; the attempt is worth the cost of a couple of stamps. 8)

Let me say:

THANKS!

I was in Williams Arms today picking up some ammo and hopefully my CX4 storm if the ATT was in yet (it wasn't :( ). A few gun nutz members had called, ordered a CX4 Storm and asked about the barrel swap! Wow that was fast! John just ordered in a few more CX4's in case a few more people want some.

I will work out a deal with John that anyone who buys a Storm from him, he'll do the "verification" to make it non-restricted. He said he doesn't normally do verifications for anyone, but I'll get him to make an exception only for gunnutz who purchased Storms from him.

So... if anyone else wants one, give John a call. He had 5 in stock when I got there today, and 2 in stock when I left.
