Who wants a non-restricted Beretta CX4 Storm?

I noticed earlier in this thread that some people think that ten round mags in the Storm are a grey area. The FRT (Firearms Reference Table) has a rarely used tab entitled, "Canadian Law Comments". This tab can be found when researching the Beretta Storm and the Ruger Police Carbine and very few other guns. Clicking this tab reveals the following. NOTE: the ten round limit specified in the Cartridge Magazine Control Regulations applies to magazines for this firearm provided: a) the magazine is originally designed for use in a semi-automatic handgun, and b) the handgun is commonly available in Canada. There you have it folks, word for word. Ten rounds is 100% legal. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Yeah... the CRAZY part is... the mags that just came with my new Storm say "CX4 Storm" on them... so I'll assume they "are designed" for my rifle, even though they would fit and work in a Beretta 92... so there's the grey area. Is the magazine "originally designed" for a semi handgun if it's marked CX4 Storm? Remember what the CFO said... if the mag says Storm on it, it's pinned at 5. If you're using Beretta 92 mags, no problem.
Crazy but oh well. I'm well stocked up on Beretta 92 mags.

I am not sure but one could assume that since it is a 92 mag design, it is a model 92 mag regardless if it says CX4 or not. If the FRT says ten rounds I think its ten rounds.

Glockhead what are your thoughts on mags marked CX4?

It might be made for the CX4 but it was designed for the 92... I think that it might be legal to use the CX4 mags in a non-restricted rifle if that is how they where sold. If, however, they came pinned I wouldn't unpin them.

The mags were originally designed for the 92. That was one of the main points for designing the gun. It doesn't matter if a CX4 logo was stamped on it for styling purposes. It is obvious that the government has gone out of their way to point out that all those mags are legal. If they were not legal, the PWEU would be raiding suppliers and confiscating them as prohibited devices long before any of you got your hands on them. BTW, the first Ruger Police Carbines were shipped through Canada with no magazine because back then nobody was sure of the rules but now they come with 10 round mags. John C. above is right about the hunting limits. Those regs are provincial and only apply to shotguns while actually hunting. You can carry an 8 shot pump shotgun for bear protection but it has to be 3 shot if you are doing any kind of hunting. No limits for rifles beyond what is legal for the gun itself. You can hunt with a 1000 round belt in a commercial version of a semi auto .50 Browning Machine Gun if you think you can carry it out there.

Oh one more point. The FRT shows a separate FRT# for the Storm with each of the following capacities. 10 round, 15 round and 20 round. For the Ruger there is 10 round and 15 round. Of course it is only 10 round for us, but the point is that there is no listing for 5 round so as far as the government is concerned, 5 round mags do not exist for these guns. You cannot verify a Storm with 5 rounds because there is no such thing and the government will not allow you to do so. It's 10 rounds period!

If your mag is marked with CX4, as are all factory mags that come with the CX4 in Canada, it is a RIFLE magazine. THERE IS NO "GREY" AREA. You cannot put 10 rounds in that magazine legally.

Beretta 92/96 mags are not marked with anything other than Made in Italy/Made in USA,and the calibre. They do not say 92 series, or 96 series, or anything else. They are pistol magazines, and can therefore be loaded to capacity.(10 rounds or in the case of the 96 series if unaltered you can get 15 9mm in them and YES that is legal as it is unaltered.)

I got my CX4 Storm 9 months ago, I've already had this discussion with the right people and the information is there if you want to find it.

Well perhaps could reveal who "the right people" are so we can verify the validity of your claim as I don't see any evidence here. I have provided the sources of my information and I stand by it firmly. BTW, Storms and Police Carbines continue to be shipped daily with their 10 round mags intact including the CX4 marked version. Haven't been any raids yet that I know of yet.

I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my Storm today. I reefed and reefed trying to get the damn barrel nut off, but it's either a left hand thread or it's on there damn tight. I fired an e-mail off to all the Beretta's to see if they can help.

Enjoy (as always, small=640x480 and large=1280x960)...

Looks like there might be something to what Gunnut is saying. While it is clear that 10 rounds are allowed in the Storm and that the guns have been shipped with CX4 marked 10 round mags, a new shipment just arrived at the local store with 10 round 92 mags with NO CX4 markings. Check your mags gentlemen and let us know. Remember, its all about public safety

If i can legally carry it in the bush as a none restricted firearm with the 10 round magazine i want one but i'm going to sit on the fence until someone does it . The local dealer just sold two in 9mm and he has two coming in .40 cal and two in .45 .

ok i live in vancouver i want to know where i can get one of these storms, and for how much, i want a non restricted one and the calibre doesnt matter.

Hunters has them in Surrey but they will be restricted...you'll have to get a conversion done with a barrel swap and verification to make it non-restricted. I think only the 9mm's are available right now.

I can't get the damn barrel nut off yet. I'm sending it to a place in Ottawa that'll be able to get the barrel off for me, then off to the barrel maker. It's gonna take longer then I thought to get mine put together. Word has it Epps is working on a similar setup... give em a call and see how long/much theirs will be... stay tuned.
