Whos going for turkey?

Sad News....
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought you all should know.
This morning, we lost a wild turkey.
His name is Tom, and he succomed to a single, fatal gunshot wound from a remington wingmaster shotgun.
Tom had a good life and will be remembered by all his hens and jakes.
Tom left us this morning at 5:30 am. At his time of death, he weighed 20lbs, had 7/8" spurs and a 9.5" beard. (He will weigh a little less without the feathers, gizzards etc.)
We will remember Tom and that crazy gobble of his, and will have a formal dinner in his honour.
We are currently accepting donations of Italian red wine, potato salad, brochette and cash.

Turkey shot at 5:30 am Sunrise was at 6:17 am. Regs. say 1/2 hr. before sunrise. Hummmm. Nice bird.44fordy said:Sad News....

Thanks for the congrats guys. It was a great hunt...although short! I put him to bed the night before. Woke up late but made it to my spot just as he started gobbling from the tree. He was COMPLETELY receptive to my calls. I forgot my mouth calls (and my lucky hat!)< so I figured I was jinxed from the getgo.
All I had was my box call, but it has always worked like a charm! He came in to my calling (no decoys), yet he seemed very iffy on getting to close. At this point he's about 50 yards in front of me, an I can't cluck with the box as I know he'll see me. I managed to get a bead on him, and slap...dinner is served!
I wish I had my mouth calls so I could have brought him in closer, but all in all, I knew I had him where he stood, and that was good enough for me!
The time between getting in my spot to bagging him was no more than 20 minutes!
Made up for the hours and hours I spent in the previous days.
