No Turkey... didn't even hear one. I heard the big a$$ grouse that's been hanging around watching me while I sit in the outhouse...LOL! Thumping away at me LOL... heard a buck calling out.. and fought off a ton of blackflies.
Ahhh well, we got the cabin roof shingled and the place cleaned up a bit, drank a whack of beer and had fun.Weather was almost too hot!!!!
Fogduckers daughter and her kids stopped by and started using the turkey calls ... it was hilarious, especially his younger granddaughter Amy... got her on video...
Well I found out that two ounces of number six shot plus that oddball rifled choke tube I got from Chilly Willy plus fifty yards equals one dead porcupine.....
I reckon the only turkey within a mile or two of my hunt camp this weekend was ME.
Gotta trim my beard soon, on average it holds thirty eight black flies per outing...............
I worked a tom for 4 hours on thursday morning, the fat bugger wouldn't come thru the gateway to the next field where I was. His ladies all came thru, and all he did was 100 yard circles around the field all day. I got a peek at him, I'd bet an easy 24 lbs. I also saw 3 yotes, and had one ten feet to my rear left, just as I was gonna do a swing & shoot on it, it bolted. maybe tomorrow....
After the tom went into the bush that day, I pulled out my rifle and shot some reloads, ( I was hunting at my range setup), and he gobbled every time I shot a group. Good thing he didn't come out, he may have been hit by a stray .308 bullet.
