Why are AR mags still pinned if only bolts and pumps are legal?

Seriously. Do we know of any verifiable cases of someone being charged for being at the range with a OiC prohib? It seems like the kind of thing that would come up around here but I haven't seen any threads about it?

An airforce dude i know got nailed with charges and they arent conveniently dropping them for him either, i wont get into his case but what he did wasnt as bad as being found with a loaded illegal pistol. My range has cameras and certain people are reporting the "totally chill" guys who think shooting prohibs at the range is actually smart. Rcmp have charged at least one member i know of, theyve sent footage of many more. Yes, if you are a normal Canadian gun owner you 100% will face harsher enforcement of the law than a literal terrorist.
 
Lets say a homeowner defends his home against an intruder. He is then charged with a crime. The charge is then stayed.

Did he get off Scot free? Should we say there's no consequences to defending your home?

Because unless the answer is yes, it really destroys the whole "charges conveniently dropped" and "you're arguing over semantics" narratives lol

If by scot free you mean as far as punishment/penalty from the courts go, then yes, absolutely.

Neither results in a criminal conviction, neither results in criminal sanctions or penalties.

And while stayed charges can technically be reinstated within one year, in over 20 years of dealing with the criminal justice system in this country, I have never seen a case where they were actually reinstated - not saying it doesn’t happen, but if it does it is so rare as to not really be a consideration.

So with the specter of prosecution hanging over the homeowners head for the next year, we're good with using the word "dropped" instead of "stayed" for his charges, and saying he got away with it Scot free?

Although you're right that stayed charges are much more commonly not reinstated. Thats true. But they can be. Think we have a year to go until we can say the charges are dropped though. Its more than just semantics.

But with that in mind, how common is it that firearms charges are withdrawn? Apparently not rare at all.

Historically at least (2017 document) lots of them are. Now, they could ALL be immigrants/non whites I guess? lol

I wish I had kept that 1990's letter from the RCMP saying that I needed to install a rivets... I thought it was dumb back then
- Fast forward to 2026, turns out we were dumber for not fighting this harder.


Heck, we're still waiting for the government to release the empirical research data used to justify the legislation...
