Why aren't HK pistols more popular?

I could be totally wrong, but it seems like the HK pistols on the BST are priced way below retail and not selling as fast as other ones.

This makes it seem like they aren't that popular, which is strange because I've always loved them for their build quality, accuracy and looks. The HK45 Compact Tactical is an amazing firearm IMHO.

What do you guys think?

IMO even priced below retail they are still overpriced MOST hk's are awsome guns but at the end of the day your paying a premium just for the name when some more affordable manufacturers provide same if not better quality for lower prices.

Not just the gun but HK magazines holy FACK are they expensive, google and pick random Canadian retailer and a USP 9mn magazine is $90 before tax!!!!

My flippin Beretta 92 mags made by Mec-Gar I got for $40 each or under, even got a Beretta brand one for $35!

Parts. Stupid expensive. 100$ a mag? And you are lucky if you can actually find parts.... But I really like them still. Reliable, well made and accurate.

Germans get up to 5 weeks holidays right off the bat. After 20 years I think it goes to 8 weeks. They have very expensive housing, high taxes and naturally have to earn more to pay those premiums of life there = their products cost way more.

The recent influx of a million plus squatters from the middle east that will need everything provided as many are unemployable (no work experience, don't speak the language etc) won't help that situation.

Thanks for the answers guys. The mags are definitely pricey! I also like Glocks and the Smith and Wesson M&P Series seem like a great buy as well. I do think the HK guns are good value even though they're expensive, plus the look of them floats my boat. I've read some testing that has them shooting without any major hiccups well above the 50k round mark... I'm probably going to pick up a 9mm Glock or M&P9 sometime soon to compare...

Love the build quality....hate the grips on the usp series....honestly like holding a 2x4....the later more moulded grips are much better,
I will have another....but I havn't found them to be any better than some other polymer framed pistols...

I love the ergo's on my Hk45 full size, I shoot it better than any of my nine's, love my p7, I'll be buried with that one. My p30l has one of the worst triggers I've ever had on a handgun

I agree. Grip is kind of clunky and I really don't like the 'pull down' style of mag release. I have a stainless USP 9mm which is a very nice looking gun and I probably wouldn't part with it just because I like having an HK but I prefer my Sig 226, 1911s, 9mm M&P and even my Glocks better.

This. :/ $90 fml.

I did notice their prices at least on some guns have not gone up as much as most others when the Can $$ fall and have wondered myself why.

Price seems to stop a lot of people, since HK has a reputation of being priced higher than its polymer competition. However, I picked up an HK45 and an HK45C new for less than what new Glocks, SIGs, or CZs go for now. Magazines are pricey, too, but they're definitely durable. Ergonomics are not that great on the USP line if you have tiny hands/low hand strength. Parts are hard to come by in Canada. (Though if you know what you're looking for, I think North Sylva can order them for you.)

They also don't have as much MIL/LEO cache as other brands here in North America, which, let's face it, is some of the reason civilians choose particular brands.

I really like HK pistols. Especially in .45. It's like they were made for each other.

HK builds the best polymer framed hammer fired pistols on the market. Without a doubt one of the most reliable handguns you can buy on earth.

Anyone who actually appreciates the REAL HK knows the newer plastic junk is garbage, and their older pre 90's pistols were absolutely the top of their game.

All of their newer guns are substandard and expensive. A glock will run circles around anything HK will ever produce in pistol format.

Nowadays, new HK pistols are owned only by fanboys who don't put enough rounds in their firearm to know what they own is inferior to most everything else. I used to work at a range and know how unreliable and finicky the new generation of pistols are. No actual decent fighting force has ever adopted anything other than the USP since the 90's from HK. That says it all. They're playing catch up to Glock and Walther instead of leading the way from the 1950's to the 1990's.

HK's earlier stuff was innovative and top quality for sure. I have to say though, not having much experience with the new batch, the Expert and Elite are great shooting guns.
