Why aren't HK pistols more popular?

M&Ps? Feel awesome in the hands, but if you shoot more than 500 Rounds in its life, you'll have to start worrying about shooting out barrels, and more importantly, breaking off those anaemic barrel lug hooks. Can you say "critical failure" ?

That's absolutely hilarious - it's crap, but funny crap. I owned an HK45 - for 3 weeks. I bought it and sold it without shooting it, because once I looked at the parts costs, magazine costs, and experienced the "joy" of the flexi safety/decocker lever, and crap (stacking, graunching, flexi) trigger, I realized I'd be better off elsewhere. At that point I only had about 30K through my M&P (now it's over 55K). I'd take an M&P45 over an HK45, any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

re: Captive recoil spring assembly - when I bought the HK - HK $100, M&P $40, but the M&P assembly is stainless steel and the HK one is plastic? Yeah, right - it's all about quality.

I want one of those. It's comically large, but the grip isn't that big as some people made it out to be.

Yea I guess the DHS, CBP and even their tactical team BORTAC aren't reputable agencies. Both of those issue or approve of the new HK pistols for duty use. Also I guess the United States Naval Special Warfare Command isn't a reputable agency either odd seeing as how it is home to one of 2 of the most premier Special Operations forces in the world one that literally hundreds of other Sepcial Operations groups around the world are based off and seeking training from. They issue the Mk24 Mod0 which is a HK45C Tactical V3 with upgraded night sights.

Didn't they just go over to the dark side? Now issuing the G19.

The recoil spring assembly for HK P2000 and later guns appears to be steel with captive spring and a white polymer buffer too. Wish it was open ended so you could buy a relatively cheap spring and replace when needed vs. buying a whole new assembly. Being in Canada and not having access to sending guns for servicing being able to replace parts easily and affordably is a serious factor to consider when choosing a pistol.

Replacement interval on the recoil spring is 25k rounds. If you can afford to shoot that many rounds through one gun, a $100 RSA isn't that much in the grand scheme.

Some of the same reasons I went with an M&P. And yes, that comment was pretty funny.

It only cost me $80 a few years ago and I have 4...I'm good to go for over 100K rounds!! : ) I also have tons of spare roll pins, minor parts and springs, extra firing pins too.

about 7000 rounds.
What can I say, I'm obsessive and will likely never reach 100K!!! Can always pass it on to my kids.

Is this true? That seems really concerning.

It was with early Smiths, but newe're models aren't going to run the gauntlet really. You can read about the model classification for the issue. The lug claw issue is universal.

But like Glock, the M&Ps are made for easy service, and the service life of parts. You can buy an HK and have it run as is for 25000 rounds, or you can buy an M&P for 25000, but have to swap barrels, mags, springs and triggers.

Again, nothing wrong that, but it's all about what you want. Just a different service platform.

myth debunked.

I'd like to think after already handling a few, I have a decent grasp on its size. If you're used to shooting something like Glocks, it looks monstrous in comparison. It dwarfs the HK45 quite a bit, too. The slide height is what really makes it look large.

500 rounds seems absurdly low to be burning barrels out.
