Why did you buy SKS rifle?

got a rifle with brand new mechanics and a crate of ammo for ~ $ 500.00.
impossible to do better, more cost effective (yes cheaper)...

Took it to the range today, and this rifle shoots... it groups 5 shots in a 3inches circle at 100 meters, perfectly centered.

Great fun keeping the metal plate swinging!!!

Thought it'd be fun, and it was for a few weeks, but like marriage and a hot shower, you get used to it and it loses it's appeal.

I needed a carbine for World War II re-enactor matches. The realistic choice was limited to an SKS that was first tested in the fall of 1944 on the eastern front or the M1 Carbine. Magazines and ammo for the M1 Carbine are far more expensive than they are for the SKS (Carbine $169.00 at SIR). With cut down SKS stripper clips it is very easy to carry 75 rds in a bandoleer as compared to carrying 10-15 M1 Carbine mags. When your also carrying webbing, binoculars, Battle Rifle, handgun and appropriate ammo this is an important point! The SKS is powerful enough to take down steel at 100 & 200 yds, but generally has 1 minute of T-34 tank accuracy past that point. This is especially true after firing the carbine in a rapid fire mode.

It is a cheap rifle but it is also a piece of history. It is also easy to customize. And being a combloc rifle it is reliable

I bought one because it is a reasonable price, it's ammunition is a reasonable price, it is easy to disassemble and clean, it can take cold, hot, dirt, sand and mud and keep on working. As my Uncle, a Nam vet used to say "All you need is an Es Kay Es, the poor man's Aye Kay." I wonder if there is any non-corrosive military ammunition out there for this rifle?

2o years ago everything was cheaper. Sorry to say inflation is out there at 3% to 4 % per year
