who has bought one, and what were the reasons for making your purchase?

1 Impulse buy

2 wanted a starter rifle- for myself, wife, g/f, or children

3 wanted one because of the magazine reviews, gunnutz hype, Stevens/Savage reputation

4 many Calibers to choose from

5 Why not

6 Why I would/wouldnt buy buy another one:) ,

Let us know what you think!

savage is well known for good quality and highly accurate rifles out of the box . Although they are not considered pretty by alot of folks they do exactly as they should and that is be a good rifle for a good price .

The 223 has a 1-9 twist and has had nothing but good reports for accuracy as with all the Savages/Stevens . for the price you pay for this accurate rifle one can invest in optics, all the bells and whistles or even practice more .
You can have your rifle grow with you (timney trigger is less then a hundred bucks , it can be bobbed, re-chambered,painted ,restocked etc) some folks are even getting them just for the actions so they can try out a new whizzbang cartridge developed ,
for the price they are you cant go to wrong in fact i would expect them to go up in price very soon(about 33% ;) )

I bought a 223 because I wanted a cheap practice rifle. One that if I chose to just buy a case of cheap ammo, I could, if I didn't feel like handloading for it.

Well, it turned out to be very accurate, and a pretty damn good gun for the price.

So I bougth a Stevens 30-06 as a truck gun. It's relaly accurate, too.

They are nto pretty, and they are not a *great* gun, but they go bang and you can hit with them.:)

good accuracy out of the box,
inexpensive,
savage's have a decent amount of aftermarket goodies,
inexpensive,

only complaint is the stock and recoil pad. on the other hand you would not feel any remorse painting your brand new unfired stevens 200 stock, nor would you hesitate to order a unfinished (semi-inlet) boyd's laminate for approx. 70$usd.

did I mention it is inexpensive.

I replaced mine (30-06) with a Tikka T3 SS, but plan on buying another in a smaller calibre,( ie, .223, 22-250)

Yup. An accurate gun (so I've heard) for cheap with a stock that demands work, painting or replacement. Bloody awful!

I just got one in .223 and I'm putting a Tasco Target/Varmint 10-40x50 on it and we'll see how well it shoots at distance. ;)

IMO a good shooting iron should be accurate, reliable, inexpensive, can hard use without afraid of any scatch. I think Steven 200 meet every point and fit the bill. I will get one very soon.

That's the exact combo I was looking at about a month ago! You have to tell me how it shoots!!! I'm kinda kicking myself for not getting one, I used the money for something else at the time, but there's always next month :D

please explain how they are ugly?? and on the other end of the spectrum explain what rifle is beautiful . ( we all have our individuall ideas as to what is nice looking rifle)

I still stand by what i have said before, that for barrel and action it is one of the best deals one could find(or complete package in it context). I have grown to like how it looks much like a persons grows to appreciate an average hound that turns into a great hunting dog.

I personally have an afinity to CRF mod 70s(the wife has a walnut SS feather weight that is stunning, I love when she wears it:D ) but when describing the Stevens i cant go so far as to say they are ugly .

I wanted a cheap to shoot rifle for the range that was accurate (223 version), and wouldn't vaporize a coyote. I shot it for a little while, then I decided I'd rather have another big game rifle, since I had a 308 for inexpensive range plinking and never really got into the coyote hunting.

They are great rifles, and I continue to recommend them as a very inexpensive, accurate, and reliable rifle. They certainly are no fancy rifle, but are worth every penny of the $300 they cost.

PS, who cares how "ugly" a rifle is, its how it shoots and functions that counts. Unless of course you're into 'gun fashion'
