Why did you buy the stevens model 200

Although I was popping 500 ml water bottles out to 350 last week with the Stevens, from shooting stix, without any problems...

I think I am going to sell my Stevens .223 and buy a Remington.:)

I just can't help myself, knowing that that swine- tod bartell - has a ###ier rifle than me....

would gladly trade a "200th year of american liberty" special edition ruger 10/22 with extended mag release, auto bolt release. and 2 butler creek 25 round steel lips magazines for one of your ugly stevens .223, or 22-250.

I bought it cause the price was too good to pass up.

I'm not sure if i would trade that 10/22 for one. Its the blue laminate one you posted earlier? I wouldn't get rid of that in a million years.

No not the blue laminate one, that 10/22 has a total build price tag of over 1600$. the one I am willing to trade is a plain jane 10/22 with a couple bells and whistles.

now back to our schedule programming....

Wow. Buying these Stevens rifles certainly knocks a guys standards down  :p

Actually I think the Internet Legend is seriously considering a Stevens, he's got the whiskey nosed Indian guy for an avatar all of the sudden :D

Calling Bartell...

Hey Tod - I've got plenty of Remington rifles... And can generally afford whatever it is I'm looking for... but I gotta admit I've been thinking about getting a Stevens... maybe in 7mm-08... just to find out what all the hoopla is all about...

Does that make me a bad person?... :D :p

Stupidity is not a crime, therefore you are free to go.
It should be :D I can see it now...

Cop; "you got a license for that"
Dumbass; "duh, fer what?"
Cop; "that" *points to dubmass's brainpan*
Dumbass; "umm, no?"
Cop; "that's what I thought" *hits dubmass with his stick*
Dumbass; "owie"
Cop; "get in the car"

The world would be a much safer place, if stupidity was a crime. A lot more people would be in jail, that's for sure

I have owed 4 Stevens 200's. 223, 308, 7mm and 300 win mag.

They are Ok for the price, not great. They accuracy was fine, but the stock and the pad are terrible. You have to replace the recoil pad, so there is another 40 bucks. So you are up to 320 and 40, so now you are up to 360.

I have replaced all with Weatherby Vanguards and Remington SPS, both sell for 500. Personally I think the 140 bucks extra is well spent and both rifles have a better fit and finish and are a step up from the Stevens. Both have a superior stock and recoil pads. Also the Remingtons and Vanguards, both have been more accurate than the Stevens out of the box.

However if 320 is all you can afford, then they are fine. But personally to answer your question, I would pay the little extra and buy a remington sps or a Weatherby Vanguard, before I bought another Stevens.

well i gotta say i am impressed with their svc dept . my stevens in 223 was not throwing the spent caseing with authority and it would sometimes leave a spent case in the action. I called them this morning and they are sending me a new extractor ,detent ball and spring for free no problem at all. :D

Why Did You Buy a Stevens 200?

who has bought one, and what were the reasons for making your purchase?

'Cause I'd been considering one for quite awhile & was the first to PM "I'll take it !" when one popped up on the EE [at a very good deal, too]. So happened it was also in my first choice of ctg, too - the venerable 7mm-08 Remington.

Would I buy another one? You bet. Too bad I've already got the .223 bolt rifles well covered or that would've been a natural second choice. Maybe would consider one in .270 Win... ;)
