I'm from Sask, hunt in Sask. Many, many animals are taken from a fence post here.... it's a nice rest and they're absolutely everywhere...
IIRC the last Elk I shot was off a fence post, too. Pumps are not unheard of out here... but my kin and friends don't use them I suppose, can't even recall having seen one in quite some time.
Even if you can't get to a fence post...going prone is usually your best action is kinda how it seemed to go...longer shots because the the prairie...nah.
More likely it is because of the size...the biggest bucks are only 4 -5 pointers... Youze guys have 8 - 10 pointers, prolly why you need that fast 2nd shot. A deer that big is like DG!
Just a regional peculiarity I suppose, all funning aside.
