^^^ In the Whelen try a stout load behind a 250gr bullet, then all you have to do is push the forearm forward(Amish machine-gun).
I had two different 7600s in 35W that would eject the empty off sandbags with a 250gr full house load.

There are many hard core bolt gun shooters out west who will never like a pump rifle. Most of those folks have nothing but disdain for a pump rifle having never used one.
I will second many of the aforementioned attributes for the pump gun with 1st hand experience. One of the reasons for it's success is the lack of reliability of the 740/7400 rifles. The 760 is far more reliable while still offering a fast 2nd shot if required.
Myself at one time and others have used them here in similar situations, nice setup for pushing bush between cutblocks. I seen one posted here in 35 whelen with a 20” barrel and peep sights that I can’t stop thinking about but like yourself I prefer a bolt.Very popular in central Ontario where deer are often shot at sub 100m ranges whilst moving from the standing/freehand shooting position.
That said, I prefer bolts myself.
To be contrarian, I don’t love either if those rifles. I find neither to be impressive accuracy wise, I have seen people shortstroke them and cause stoppages. The trigger isn’t great, nor is the concept to me.
