Why doesn't the Howa action seem to get much respect?

I honestly don't understand why this stigma would exist with this generation.

Because this generation was raised by the generation of "the ONLY rifle on the planet is a rem 700/ winchester model 70/ weatherby because I say so and there ain't no discussin it further ya hear!?"

Personally I was raised to spend your money on whatever the best product is, and if you're short on cash then do your research and find the best "bang for your buck". Regardless of where it's made.

I don't know about those other guys, but most of the stuff I rely on, use daily is Japanese. I use Makita Cordless Tools all day long for my trade, and they almost never let me down. Bushnell optics, I have a Sony reciever and a Sharp television. Some of the best cars I have ever owned were Japanese (300zx,Camry, Xtrail). How many great American products do you own? I had a Ford once...Never again. Just my 2 cents

I just went out to shoot my Vanguard (essentially a howa action) and it feels perfect. I honestly couldnt ask for much more... especially considering I got the gun new for 400$! Thank god the vanguard 2 came out and dropped the original vanguard's price by a crazy margin.

The Weatherby Vanguard gen 2s have a 3 position safety and a new 2 stage trigger. New plastic stock with gel inserts too I think. I've read the old plastic stocks were pretty crappy. Higher price also

I personally like the stock, it is a bit on the heavy side for a synthetic but otherwise I have no complaints. Also it isnt going to turn any eyes lol but for the price of one today, its a great buy.. Saw someone with a vanguard 2 at the range today actually, first time I have seen it in person. Stainless steel version, beautiful and was getting tight groups. If I had the $$ i would buy one.

This couldn't be more true. Expect for airplanes. I am pretty happy with the machines I fly and there are all built in the USA or Canada.

They may be built here, but if it's for Air Canada, they will fly them down to a 3rd world country for maintenance to save a few bucks. My neighbour WAS a aircraft mechanic until they shut the maintenance dept down here in Winnipeg. Now he's stuck building busses for Motorcoach Industries.

Haha no, not Air Canada. I'm not an airline type. I work for companies where I can have a first name basis with the mechanics and management for that matter. I know who looks after the machines I fly and I know their families!

But that's de-railing the thread a bit.

Back on topic, I am now on the look out for a stainless vanguard in 300 win mag to replace a tikka that I foolishly let go...

Well I stand corrected on thinking Howa didn't make stainless rifles under their own name...I've just never seen one for sale or owned by anyone...just blued steel. Who carries these stainless Howa rifles?

Would the current production Howa 1500 and the Weatherby Vanguard S2 compare favourably, aside from name are they same / similar ?
Perhaps a better question would be : What would you as hunters choose.... a new Howa or a new S2 ?
Prices are very close with the Weatherby costing a few dollars less where I see them..

Will Howa guarantee 1" accuracy? Weatherby will.

Aside from that are there any other pertinent differences ?
The Howa does come with bases / rings included and as near as I can find the Weatherby does not, probably why the Howa costs more.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to stir up an argument, simply curious because I can get either one in the chambering I want and visually they appear to be almost identical..

Well from what I could see. The Howa Varmint has a heavier profile barrel and HOWA on the floor plate. The Weatherbly Varmint/Vanguard was much thinner. Theres a couple hun difference in them too.
