Why no love for the Springfield Socom 16?

The only guys who disrespect the Socom are guys who don't own one. Sure they are heavier than an AR, but it's a hard hitting 308 and lets face it... there is no replacement for displacement! The extra weight absorbs all the recoil, the muzzle climb is non existant, and even my g/f can handle it. Buy one.

Amen...

Had one. Loved it.

Sorry its gone.

If you can afford one, they're worth it. Beautifully finished, with flawless operation.

IMHO, M1A type rifles are probably less of a hobby than they are a lifestyle advertisement. Somewhere between 'what's old is new again' and a bid for nostalgia with a reliable old friend.

Norcs can be very nice too. Notably, they are much easier on the wallet for the budget shopper until the USGI part replacement schizophrenia begins.

Either way you're good. Any reject selling you religious brand sentiment would normally be ignored as such, but you should again remember that M1As are often a personal statement of sorts.

Wow great pics! Exactly what I was looking for.

I can't wait till it arrives :dancingbanana:

Ironically, the M1A is a copy, and Springfield Armory, Inc is not the Original entity.

If you want to be accurate, the M14's the 'real' deal.

Merllin, please reduce the size of your pictures.
SA Inc. Socoms are over priced marketing things. Restricted too. Market's too small, up here.

Not mine.. Stolen from the intraweb...

Matches all the other ones anyways..

Poetry dude...! Well said... :agree:

Well gag me with a spoon ...
there are still some young wannabees who haven't figured it out yet.
Personally,
I GOT NO/ZERO/NADA/NIL respect for a Sproingfield SOCOM!!!

Socoms are over priced marketing things. Restricted too.

YEP!
Or to put it another way,
SOCOMS ARE OVERPRICED Tacticool Fashion accessories,
made with CAST recivers [ cast OUT OF SPEC receivers ],
probably a lot of other cast out of spec parts,
and assembled by Spastic American Drug addicts.
And after you buy one and discover this fact for yourself,
if you send your brand new SOCOM in for warranty work,
MORE spastic American drug addicts will have it for several months,
and get to beat on it a bit more before they send it back to you.
Repeat a few times till you get fed up and sell it to some other sucker.
AND,
that OVER priced SOCOM will still be restricted here in Canuckistan.

SOCOMS are NOT real he man PRACTICAL rifles ... more for the fashion concerned lemmings and wannabes, to keep in the back of their truck to impress the ignorant ...
along with their fashionable Harley ...
that also doesn't run reliably.

Just go on any of the US M14 chat groups,
and you will get an earful about the unreliability and inaccuracy of this mutant.

OR,
you can buy a Chinese M14/M305 with a forged reciver, drop in a GI bolt, chop the barrel to a NON-restricted 18 3/4", and you will have twice the rifle for about 1/4 the money.

WHICH PART OF THE MATH DON'T YOU GET YET???
BTDT with about 80 or so US GI M14/M1A/305/M14S shorty conversions,
and I've owned FIVE Sproingfields ...
including their best, the SUPERMATCH ... so I ain't an SA virgin.

of course,
as with any opinions you get from the internet,

made with CAST recivers [ cast OUT OF SPEC receivers ],

Please cause the Norinco receiver is perfectly in specification using cheaper steel then the 8620.

If you bother to browse American boards, most SAI owners are quite happy with their rifles and their reliability. Even with the "inferior" cast parts.

If your not going to add something useful to the post, other then to bash a gun outright after many other owners of them were and are quite happy with them. Why bother posting at all other then to make it another Norinco vs SAI thread?

Geez Laz, don't hold back... tell us all how you really feel.

My experience with the SOCOM has been, well... different then it sounds like your experience has been. Sorry to hear about your troubles with them, but I like mine. It runs well, and for a 16" barrel it shoots pretty well too...

PS. I don't like Harleys, I don't drive a truck and as far as I'm concerned Levis are high fashion.

Holy #### way to #### on my parade! I'll PM you if I ever wanna sell :kickInTheNuts:

Well.... I've never owned one... I have handled and fired one. I enjoyed it immensely.
If a 16" m14/m1a could be owned here without the restricted classification.... I'd own one for sure. I'd use an LRB receiver and a 16" medium contour in a Troy stock with an eotech :D
While not a springfield fan, I do see the merits of the socom 16 and really like the handling and balance found with this configuration

The price is the biggest factor. That and it's not as much fun buying a gun that's been modified compared to doing it yourself. But that's cool that you got one. They are still very ###y rifles.

And where is all of this hate on Lazerus coming from? He gave his opinion and he at least had experiences to back it up. Most guys dissing a gun have just heard rumors.

Hard not to enjoy an M1A anything.

I've spent my last 2 years enjoying a Swiss Arms kick, but am thinking about adding in an LRB as well.

LOVED my VLTOR stock for light weight. Far more than the nice, but heavy Sage stock.

Cheers.
