Why the hell do people hunt with semi auto rifles??

Take a look at a COMPETITIVE trap or skeet squad.
You'll see virtually ALL O/U's!
Personally, I couldn't give a cat's meow for a hunting rifle in semi , pump or bolt for that matter, but I do have many friends that like them.
Whatever floats yer boat!:D

I meant preferred by regular folks...ones that do not have disposable incomes, nor Factory sponsors to shoot clays all day. :D

all your supposed to need is 1. piss on all these bolt action, semi auto, leavers, pumps,.... Ruger #1 all the way! just make that first one count!

Couldn't agree more about making the 1st one count. But then your statement really doesn't support your sig line, or vice versa.

I hun the old fashioned way. With a ruger #1 22in barrel iron sights. I load one (1) round of 220gr Nosler partition ammunition and don't carry any reloads.

Now I not sayin I don't miss but....... when I do

I just get my bearers to open up with their Fn's on full auto and it's all good:evil:

One hell of a lot of skeet shooters use a semi-auto for 12Ga. to reduce recoil. Helps when shooting 400 targets. They use a 20Ga.OU with 28Ga. & .410 tubes for the smallbore targets. I can stay on target with my Rem. pump and shuck the action, but I can't do it nearly as well with my Rem. bolt. If you can, more power to you. It will shoot 1.25" groups @ 100 Yds, and that is good enough for most of what I shoot at. I have a buddy who jumped 3 moose @ close range in the bush. He shot the one cow and the other two charged him. The bull dropped about 6 feet away and he had one shot left out of 5. 3 dead moose, one live hunter, and you would have to pry his semi-auto out of his cold, dead hands.

Sure:rolleyes: Used to hunt with a #3 but it was hard to get them three running deer to line up for one shot.

I have been involved in setting up quite a few 7400 Rems, while I personally don't like the rifle they do fit well & provide & quick sight picture. I have seen quite a few shoot close to an inch with factory ammo  . Something I've seen a lot of unbedded bolt rifles not do. They also seem to cycle reliably if maintained properly, certainly no worse job than BP soot shooters put up with, to each their own.

A few years back my pal Pounder had a .458 built on a BAR. I believe they started with a .300 Winchester model, added an untapered .458 barrel, but I think there was some modification to the gas system. I'll have to ask him for clarification. They moved the gas port closer to the chamber to get cleaner gas, so that might of resulted in having to redesign the entire gas system.

I shot this thing a few times, and recoil was very managable, but as you might expect it was very muzzle heavy due to the heavy contour barrel. He said if he did it again he would choose a lighter contour barrel. I never knew this rifle fail to fire, feed or eject, regardless of bullet style. Still, like most semi-auto's, it had a squishy trigger and for me that is the worst trait of the breed.

Over the last few days a couple of the guys here have been talking about another BAR project, only this time using the .450 Marlin Cartridge, and chamber the barrel for the bullets seated long. The result could be a lighter rifle of equal power and controlability to the first project. There are also some questions being brought up as to whether or not the BAR is still the best donor action as successful rifles have been built on the Garand, and the Benelli R-1 has some advantages.

I guess you havent seen "calling all coyotes II" before eh????:D :D

Who cares what somebody else wants to hunt with? If it turns their crank, LET THEM ENJOY IT!!! If it has minute of moose accuracy and does the job to their satisfaction, great. Maybe they don't give a rat's ass for these prissy-ass paper shooters who get all wound up for a 0.010" group change?

Cripes guys, live and let live.

Where the cover is tight a semi is a viable choice for deer. My 7400 rem .280 rem won't chew top pressure loads, but a nice moderate handload has proven to be reliable and as accurate as some bolt guns I have owned (about 1.5 moa) Not benchrest accurate but deer accurate. They do need to be cleaned thoroughly and regularly. If you don't do that, get ready for jams! I have tried to justify selling this gun, but can't because I can pull it up offhand and crack off three shots in about 2 seconds without taking my eyes off the target, all of which land inside of a 5 inch square at 75 yds. When you're pussyfooting through the haggle after mossyhorns and he jumps up and offers a quick shot, I will take that shot because I have practiced it at the range and know where the bullets are going.

I would not hesitate to shoot mine out to 300 yds with a proper shot opportunity and a rest on the longer shots. Great for the bush and can cover the cutlines if necessary. What more do you need?

Anyone that hunts wiht a semi just sprays and prays...."Look, a deer!"

Might as well just use a machine gun...
