Why the hell do people hunt with semi auto rifles??

Who would hunt with a semi-auto?

Well, someone with a physical handicap that might not be able to handle a manually operated action and can't afford a single shot.

Or someone like myself who chose to bug his hunting buddies by taking along his M1 Garand (the one I use to kick ass with in our monthly high-power rifle matches) and being the only one to bring home venison.

So, you have to take those lousey semi-auto Remingtons to the range and fire them for function. What a burden .....

Back in the good 'ol days, one of my favourite small game hunting rifles was my AR-15 Delta H-Bar with a 2-7x Leupold scope. Wonderfully accurate and ergonomic, it was my favourite coyote, fox and walkabout groundhog rifle. One loaded thirty round magazine lasted me most of the month. :onCrack:

I hunted deer once (again in the good old days) with a Norinco AK-47, again with a thirty rounder. Not an accurate gun, undepowered cartridge, wouldn't do that again even if it were legal.:slap:

In my younger and dumber days, I even went groundhog hunting with a long barreled Norinco RPK copy with a 90 round drum magazine; now THAT was fun! I didn't hit any hogs, but did I ever have fun killing rocks and mounds of dirt! Ahhh, the good old days.....:bigHug:

Personally, I would rather have a good bolt gun than a semi for hunting; however, semi's do have their place in the scheme of things (ie: 10/22's, Ruger Deerfields, etc.) when a fast second shot in the thick bush could mean the difference between success and the one that got away!:runaway:

I don't care for semiauto's but that is a personal opinion. Hunt with whatever is your fancey as long as it is legal and follows good hunting practise!
 
Follow-up shots are only one part of the semi function...the other is being able to maintain your sight picture on your target.

Any wonder why semis are favored in trap, and skeet.

I have a 7600 pump I use sometimes for deer. When we run dogs its not unusual to have 2 or more deer run out, and we can and do fill each others tags in Ontario. That said, I've never owned a 7400 and have never been a fan of them, but my 11-87 slug gun will throw copper solids all day long:cool:
 
Well when someone ask me a dumb question like why would you hunt with a semi?
I respond with "Its more sporting with a semi! Anyone can hit a deer with a "evil" bolt action sniper rifle".

Take a look at a COMPETITIVE trap or skeet squad.
You'll see virtually ALL O/U's!:popCorn:
Personally, I couldn't give a cat's meow for a hunting rifle in semi , pump or bolt for that matter, but I do have many friends that like them.
Whatever floats yer boat!:D
