Why the hell do people hunt with semi auto rifles??

Well I agree that those models of Remington as well as the new 750 are on my do not buy list, but there are other autoloaders that aren't. Browning's BAR for instance. I might even consider an M1. Not that long ago one could even hunt with FN FALs.

The short answer is that we are still lucky that we can hunt with autoloaders. Maybe not for much longer though...

Let's go a step further on that.......don't trust a guy who's signature is "That's magical". :D

And I can tell you from here that you could drive a truck through the holes in logic as far as guns laws go here in Oz.
Everything was based on a knee jerk emotional response by people who had no idea about guns and hated them.
You're always bound to get a rational response then.....right? :confused::mad:
 
Wow. This has to be the longest, dumbest and most full-of-jackholes thread I have ever read on the internet. The one thing I've noticed in my wandering around the ranges and gun stores is the conviction gun owners have in their completely unfounded accusations of 'x gun' or 'y ammo'. Granted, I'm not Gods gift to shooting sports and hunting, but both the close minded old timers stuck in the past and the young punks who have to have the most expensive of the elite really should consider pulling their largely heads out of their arses. Start reading some books and quit listening to the bs at the gun store.

As of late I like it when Nugget brings his Browning BAR on a hunt. He might get a shot and then struggle with it when it jams, quite entertaining for me anyways.....

It was his Grandad's gun so I can understand why he takes it out. He has made some incredible shots with it and the little K4 it is topped with. Had it been onthe shelf inthe gun shop I imagine he would have thought hmmm, nice wood and kept walking past to the bolt section......

I wish he had gotten Grampa's 300 H&H Remington.
 
the biggest problem we find here in the shop with semi"s in general can 95% of the time be attributed to incorrect cleaning...sure they wipe down the outside and will occasionaly run A patch down it but they forget that there is more required to maintain their rifle...there is parts under the wood and it does need to be taken off and cleaned out...pine needles, dirt, carbon, brass shavings and i have even removed gravel out of guns that the owners swear they clean religously..most of the time this all that is required to get it shooting again...semi's are great for in the bush and not everyone "sprays and Preys"...most women who come in are not comfortable with levers, pumps or bolts but love a semi...everyone liked the same thing this would be an awfully boreing place...my two cents worth anyway...:wave:

I know for a fact Nugget's gun needs cleaning. When he first got it it worked fine all the time but now causes grief more often than not.

One thing I do hate about it is the scattering of the brass all over. I learned real quick to not sit on his right side when he is shooting, that brass is nasty hot!

It does come down to being prepared to do a little extra maintenence and cleaning. Trouble is Nugget is afraid to mar the pins to take his BAR apart when he drifts them out. I have no experience tearing one down and refuse to touch the thing so dirty it stays until he ponies up and gets a shop to do it I guess.

I had a Browning .22 semi and a HB Ruger 10-22 for the gopher patches. All too often it went to "spray and squeal with glee's" after running butter balls in the pasture. Hardly economical or ethical but let's no touch that one today.
It sure was fun until I was halfway through the second case of Wildcats and I started thinking boy these 25rd mags go fast and cost alot to fill.

Off I went and bought a Brno model 2E and never looked back. I could shoot better, clean alot less and have a box of ammo last much longer.

As long as I don't have to carry a semi myself for hunting I really don't care. Let the silly children pack whatever they want and I will do the same.
 
I have hunted with my svt-40 no problems but alot of hunters are not skilled or have the know-how to disasemble semiauto's and cleen them properly but I tend to agree that is not the rifles fault poor shooters can make up for skill with fire power . I guess I like all guns I tend to try different guns in my collection every season I have shot mule deer with a 577 snider a custom single shot 500 Jefferies some would say way to much gun but a well placed shot through the ribs don't hurt no meat most of my hunting is done with a 300 Rem . ultramag with bonded bullets . also have used a semi. in the old 35.rem.to hunt whitetails at moderate range 100-200 yds. I shoot long range black powder comps. with my 45-70 . semi's bolts single shots levers ETC. all can be used effectively the key is time spent at the range or in a farmers feild working on loads judging distances Knowing trajectory of the firearm you intend to hunt with .One friend I take with me uses a bolt tikka in 300 win. he is a hell of a shot off the bench but seldom practises offhand shooting or shooting from one knee. and I have watched him empty his clip nearly as fast as a semi' He has gon through 25 rnds in a day shooting at deer and never hit one because he only sights his gun in on the bench just before hunting and that is the only practice he makes time for .

I bought a semi auto last week. It's a Ruger 44Carbine. :eek:

I feel so dirty, but since it's a Ruger, it's got to be the ....... MIGHTY KING OF THE 44s :D

Try something like "why would anyone want to ride a piece of technology from the early 1900's that is too expensive, too slow, and just plain heavy?"
