Why would a EE seller ask for "scan of PAL and drivers to complete sale"

Unless the buyer requests it be shipped to a different address. You know, we can really go around in circles on this all day...
You can photograph the hydro bill for your alternate location and edit it, leaving part of your name and the address.

The point is, you don't need identity-theft inducing personal information to confirm that you a shipping to a PAL holder.

Good to have these problems!

I just sold a rifle to a fellow CGN. I asked for a scan of his PAL and he supplied it. I wasn't asked but I sent him a scan of my PAL. We are both legal and both happy. After delivery is done and TR's exchanged I will erase his e-mail with his scan and hopefully he does the same. It is called trust. Anyone I deal with will have to show me a scan of their PAL whether buying or selling. And I will supply mine to them.Toys can be shipped ASAP this way. If they want to just type the info then it will go through the CFC. I really don't want to validate their existance(CFC)but if thats the way the guy wants it, so be it. If not...I guess you don't get to play.

Sadly, "wtf" doesn't even begin to illustrate the fail here...
It seems to be spreading in other threads too. wtf doesn't quite cut it

WTF!!!! seems more appropriate. Too bad we didn't have larger font.

Would this work for a long distance transaction?
Seller and buyer agree to terms of a sale and money is exchanged
Seller takes a 5 or 10 dollar bill and tears it in half
Seller sends one half with firearm to buyers nearest gunstore and the other half in a separate envelope to buyer.
When the shipment arrives at the gunstore, the buyer is contacted has 24 hrs to retrieve his property
Retailer will then verify buyers PAL along with matching the two halves of the bill to confirm buyer is legit
If buyer shows, verification is confirmed, the deal is complete and the gunstore keeps the 5 or 10 bucks as "third-party verification fee"
If buyer is bogus, then firearm gets shipped back to seller, collect.
A small price to pay for piece of mind.....

Sounds like we totally need a third party to handle the verification. The problem with that is that the third party needs to validate only, not, keep records.

I like the idea with the local gun shop method. They have already been through the hoops of validation and reselling.

It is just too damn hard to validate a license especially over the internet.

I am lost here:p. I thought that we can do business as usual for RESTRICTED trades on EE since the Short Gun Registry is still in place. Am I missing something?

Yes, it's business as usual for restricted and prohibited firearms (you indicated non-restricted, though). Also, it's the restricted firearms registry - not the "short gun" registry (you might be confusing that with "short bus", which I think some people have been riding of late...). ;)

That's my point - I don't. There's really no way to vet anyone online now 100%.

Exactly....and THAT is PRECISELY why the LAW was written SPECIFICALLY saying the seller is NOT REQUIRED to.

Holy hell....do guys here make sure the guy who bought their used car has a license to drive it? Or do the get it that if you sell a car and the buyer is unlicensed the BUYER is the one breaking the law.
