Around here we have several wild boar farms. There is always strays that get out and become nuicance animals. I am wondering what wild boar tastes like and is it worth getting a freezer full, or is it strong and gamey.

i hunted wild boar in the U.S.A. with my bow and its my fav meat next to bear :D if you get the chance to hunt them go for it

I was looking at going out to Melfort to get some, the guy who asked me to come says they have been leaving them for Coyote bait ??? Maybee they are sick of eating them or they have too many to consume.

Had some in Europe.

My wife has relatives in Germany and friends in France who hunt. I was out just once but didn't see any from the stand I was assigned.

The meat is really good, but describing it is like trying to tell someone who hasn't had any what bear meat tastes like, but here goes:

I don't think it's anything like commercial pork at all, but more like a cross between black bear and home raised pork.

bear to me is better then Prim rib from what i was told bear and pigs are from the same family

go for it!

Meat is darker than pork... wich is good (pigs don't get exercise). I like my steaks direct on the bbq with salt-petpper et game spice mix.

Males will be more gamy. Most male boars from farms get castrated as to prevent breeding and reduce taste. I 've had unaltered boar meat I I like it.

The Boars around here have not been on farms for many generations. When the market fell through they were set free to fend for themself's and are doing a really good job.

Always wanted to hunt these fat porkers. Let me know if you want some company. If not does anyone know of any hot areas to hunt these things in Sask.
Cheers,
Vaughn

guys, hit them by using a couple of hounds... the grittier the better.
I've used Plott hounds and a couple of Walkers. Plotts are great to get the hogs moving but thend to run silent... so adding 1 or 2 loud walkers or blueticks helps the hunters intercept the boar. :)

5.56 is probably too small for wild boar, right?

I read a story years ago(1986 or '87) in a Guns & Ammo mag about a young kid(12 or 13) who used a Mini-14 on a hog, after 5 rounds and still moving his father had to finish it with his Colt Python(something like 11rnds of .357mag.?).I think something larger, atleast 6.5x55 size would be safer/humane to use IMO.
