Wild boar

Well, here is a boar hunt form a Western standpoint...I hunted boars in Ontario, Spring 2005.

Is it a 'canned hunt?" no

Is it alot of fun? HELL YES!!!

Is it strictly 'fair chase?" well, no not really. Not int he traditional sense, but I'll explain...

We were in a big area, that was fenced on all sides. So the boars couldn't run over the next mountain range, like in BC.

But it's not like we didn't have to WORK for it, eihter...

A couple of guys could spend a week there and only get a glimpse of a boar.

We had about 10 guys, and over 2 days we only managed to nail 7 boars.

In many ways, the huntign was tougher than alot of hunting out here for bears or deer or moose. If you are not prepared to run alot, sit in knee deep water, get covered in mud, CHASE those boars down and shoot a bow on running animals, stay home!!:p

It is a ####load of FUN, it sure as hell isn't shooting fish in the barrel, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
:D

Big area, using bows, and the critters where FAST and WILEY.

I agree with your point. I think the only way to get a boar is through fair chase hunting since we don't have a free running "wild" population like they do in Texas. It's dumb luckto even find a stray like we have around here, because they are few and far between, however, there is an area in Sask, I think it's goose mountain park, where there is a reproducing "wayward" population that is hunted.

I've never hunted a game farm, but I've hunted wild boar for the last 3 years in the swamps of Georgia with a bow in hand and they are one tough critter. They are in no sense of the word easy to hunt with a bow.

These hunts are 100% fair chase and 100% wild (feral) hogs.

As to the original question that started this post, they taste fantastic. The meat is wonderful.

We are in the processing of booking our flights for this year's hunt right now :)

Game Farms have been proven to be a link to CWD;) ,but you DarrylDB seem to be an expert and by the looks of it have already made up your mind:rolleyes:
And F.Y.I.,these " 5 homemade rules" were quoted from the
International Hunter Education Association;
www.ihea.com
:)

Please show me a link to a Scientific study linking CWD in Wild boars to native game species. You cant because your talking out your ass.

I've done a few of these hunts with both rifle and bow, so Im not commenting from my comfy recliner infront of my computer about something I have no valid information about.
Yes, I have made up my mind, simply because I've done it, and more than once. Unlike you, Im not turning up my uppity nose at something that is a fun, and viable method of hunting because of personal assumptions.
Gatehouse outlined the weekend, (and yes, I was there...) so Im not going to regurgitate it.
If you can find something more exhillarating than hunting a bunch of pissed off pigs with arrows, sign me up.
I've done alot of things in my life, but that was 2 days of adrenaline I wont forget, and if you lifted your biases, you might see that you too might enjoy it too. Its definately not near what your assuming it to be.

I guess if thats how you graciously admit you got punked in an arguement, and cant back ANY of your statements, so be it.

resorting to stupid pictures instead of these CWD reports im still waiting for shows us your more of a talker than a walker...

I guess life is good if your narrow minded, you dont have to learn anything you dont allready know:rolleyes:

Gilly, I'd take it over beef, pork, Moose or venison any day.
Its more of a red meat than pork, and not as succeptable to Trychanosis (spelling) so you can eat it rare if you want.
And the funny thing is, the last two boars I got tasted better than the ones we got on the bowhunt, but it was still incredible. I still got some. :)

U know what Fog, thats not too bad of an Idea.
Lets whip up a Gunnutz game BBQ next summer.
IM sure we could buy a boar, and pitch in a few bucks each...
U cant hunt em anymore, But U can still get em...

Hmmm...

A bit of a ####shoot in the summer...

Lets buy a live one Darryl.... Oops it got away.... can't have it running around loose now can we;) ... Just kidding!
But this does speak loudly to the redundancy of this stupid law that closed the game farms. You can still raise them just like cattle and there are many farms that raise exotics and non-indigenous species for sale. Do you suppose these farmers are more likely to keep these animals penned safely or a game farm:confused:
CWD and Bovine Encephalitis were touted as the reasons for closing the game farms... but domestics spread these diseases just as often and look how many cattle are packed into the stockyards!
#### all they had to do was regulate and tax the game farms to pay for the policing.... but the Liberals swallowed the anti's bait and the OFAH let it happen!
Damn it all now I'm gonna get started on another OFAH/Liberal rant...
