In my opinion no.
The law has been in place for too long, and too many people support it.
Like CdnCombatMedic said, I am more concerned with it becoming prohibited then getting it non-restricted.
Never gonna happen because they are far more insidious than a mini 14 or Ar180B
I could see them going prohibited if the Canadian military changes its service rifle.
Why would that be the case?
If I had to hedge my bets, I would say something to the opposite effect to what you'd want to happen would happen. If there's a campus shootout on Canadian soil, the screaming voice won't be saying, "GIVE US LIBERTY!"...Americans, from what i understand are going through yet another gun related phenomenon that may or may not link to the collage shooting.
Such as after Columbine, gun activists got the foot hold they needed. But the collage shooting had the opposite effect, the people who were there realized that the only defense they had was the one they brought with them, I.E. no deffence at all.
Now armed civilians are taking up their rights. It is getting to the point that some gun laws are being scrapped, in favor of the general publics right to bear arms.
This could happen in Canada: The sudden realization that some places you go in this country, you cant call the cops, its not an option in the middle of nowhere, let alone have them arrive in minutes. So their is always hope, I dont see this anti gun craze lasting forever.
Foe instance: A few weeks before 9/11 I had a debate with a number of my co workers in this reguard. They though I was nuts to think anyone would need a gun in good ol' Canada. But just one day after 9/11, When the shock and silence wore off, the subject was addressed again, without me initiating it. Suddenly they realized I was right, because they didn’t feel comfortable or safe as they once did.
Its not to say: Lets hope a tragedy happens to shake theses people out of stupidity. But eventually s**t does happen.
I dont have 100% of the facts when i post this but what i remember is that Ar-15 were originally supposed to be prohib but they couldnt classify them as that. Turns out there is a annual shooting compatition where there is a medal given by the queen. Civilians comepete against the military for the medal. As such civilians need a ar-15 to be able to compete in the compatition agaisnt the military who uses the C7. So im guessing if the military changes its service rifle in the future the ar-15 will become prohibited like it was originaly supposed to be.
That is just what I vaguely remember someone telling me. Im sure someone will chime in soon with the 100% right facts.
Get out and shoot service rifle with your AR. People shooting tin cans at their range or trying to look cool in front of a mirror lack credibility. People who compete at a provincial level have instant cred even with non shooters. Trying to make your AR look cool and plinking do nothing to legitimize the AR.
Think about it if someone asks "what you do with your rifles" which of these sounds like you are a responsible gun owner with a legitimate use for your firearms.
"I compete at the Provincial level in Dominion of Canada Rifle Association sanction Service Rifle matches"
"I am ranked 18th nationally in Service Rifle and am training to be 1st"
"I go to the range and shoot stuff"
The last one is what I hear from most gun owners that I know and it irritates the hell out of me.
