Wilson Combat "Border Patrol" Shotgun ( NOW WITH PICS)

Well i was considering this:

But then i thought to myself, fk me, i could get a Border patrol for that price or have an old wingmaster as you suggested mocked up for me by Casey at tac ord for a lot less then both. So i bought a old wingmaster with wood furniture, and its pretty nice as it is for now, but i may have it upgraded.

IMO....this is the best decision. I'm partial to Mossberg's (and owned a 590 14") but a slick action Wingmaster massaged by Casey is a beautiful thing and at a fraction of the cost to boot!

Well, ya know what. I did it. I got one coming its half way here now. After watching Hickok45s video i had to have it. I still have a nice older wingmaster with the wood furniture and its great, so i can imagine this will be sweet.

I mean people spent much more on AR-15s and 1911s. Most dont buy a ruger sr1911 or a Norc AR-15 and dress them up. Ill let ya know when i get it what i think. It does come with a nice Wilson Combat carry bag :)~

when I bought my 870P it came with Wilson ghost rings, Xs big dot and tube extension. So....what is it I bought? it came brand new from Wolverine. Does Remington farm out work sometimes?

You bought a 870P MAX.

I bought one of those a while back too and ended up selling it, it was picky with the ammo it liked to cycle. Its made my Remington and not touched by anyone else.

The border patrol is a 870 that is taken by Wilson Combat and tuned to their specs, new coating, sights, springs, follower, etc... As others have said, their version of suped up 870.

Nope that's not the one I got, But I see what you are saying. its just a 870P with some add-ons. I just thought it weird that all add-ons were Wilson and not Remington. Mine has no feeding issues at all

this is what I got. Minus the knox stock and side saddle....also ignore the machete.

Meh, got a few older Ithaca riotguns. I don't feel left out here. Nor do I feel that I overspent either.

I probably bought 4 of them for a 100 dollars less then 1300. Of course in used but good/excellent condition.

Good for you, i wanted this one and so i got it. I dont feel like i overspent either, considering what some folks spend on 1911s, AR-15s, precision rifles, scopes etc.... Im actually on the lower end.

As well the rest of my shotguns were cheapos, 590, 500, old 870 wingmaster. I just wanted to try this one out, maybe it will be worth the hype maybe not, ill see soon.

I did buy a 870Pmax once for more then the border patrol and it was garbage i thought, very picky with ammo. I hope this one isnt the same, time will tell.

1970's 870 $150
40 years of smoothing the action, free
used scattergun sights (from my 7615P) free

To be fair, those 870's are rarer than hens teeth at that price, and they sell out in a few hours when they come up. So your fair market average price for a used 1970s gun is a bit higher than that. The scattergun sights also weren't free, just buried in the purchase price of another gun you had. I think for an honest price someone else can replicate without amazing timing for a deal and a loaded parts bin you need to add at least $300-400 to your build. The Wilson also (I assume) comes with some form of warranty support, which might have some value. When you then tack on the finish and tritium sights, you're really not that far off from the Wilson price. Add the convenience of being able to buy it off the rack and take it home, not having to assemble the components, and absolutely knowing the way the gun was treated since it left the factory, and the gap to me gets much closer.

Well i got the border patrol shotgun. Its a nice gun for sure. Almost too fancy for me. I have yet to shoot it, but we will see how it handles. Ill take some photos later.

The shotgun feels great, is smooth as all hell, balances great. A nice gun. Is it 1400 bux nice? I don't think so. If it came with a Surefire Front end maybe. Its way better then the 870P MAX that i had, which also cost 1400 bux. It cycles any ammo i put in it. I have to take it to the range and try it with some slugs at 50 yards and get back to ya. It has attachments for a sling of some kind, but not the kind i have. Not sure what type to put on it, maybe some of you sling guys could tell me.

So as others suggested, if you have an old wingmaster 870 receiver , you could save money just sending it to Casey at Tac Ord and having him pimp it out.

I just had to see it for myself, especially after that Hickok45 video.

Here are some pics of the package. Comes with nice WC soft case, dog tags?, and a gun cloth, not sure what the yellow "SF" means either.

Dang, still contemplating to drop coin on one of these.

Tempting but..

If ya got the bux, there is nothing wrong with it. Its a fantastic gun. I just wanted to be honest in case there are folks that are planning on saving up to get one or something. Its a great gun for out of the box awesomeness, without having to send it off to get pimped out etc.. I would have thought the recoil pad would have been better, but its not. On my ruger gunsite scout, the recoil pad is nice and soft. This gun does not have a nice enough recoil pad for a 1400 dollar gun.

Ill also add, the pump itself if you have the gun standing vertical, with barrel towards the sky, does slide down on its own a tad, its that free, not stiff at all.
