Winchester 1907 followed me home...

yeah, I just need the slightly larger diameter sight disc I ordered to arrive. With glasses on, these tiny circumference ones just ghost totally away - too much so.

IIRC, from Ian, it's the factory sling swivels and that extra little curl on that end of the cocking lever.
I don't know what else myself.
The Police models also had the beefier butt stock on them. These are really great rifles. Bit on the heavy side, and will surprise you when you pick one up for the first time, as they are a smaller carbine sized gun. The 1910 especially! That's a huge counterweight under the forend on those babies!! I have a bunch of them, and they are fun to shoot! Still haven't had the chance to drop a deer with one of the 1907's or 1910's I have yet.

There is a member on here that is VERY knowledgable on these rifles, and has rechambered some to modern cartridges. pmatuk is his name, and hopefully he will be along to talk about these really cool rifles!

In the past I had one of these rifles.Great rifle, but very much on the heavy side. The trigger was terrible.Took two men and a boy to squeeze it.LOL

lol, totally agree with the heavy trigger.
inherited a 1905 stamped 35wsl some time ago.
came with a box of 351sl, shouldn't chamber them but it does...
I'm certainly not inclined to try it but I did find some 35's that work fine.

I wonder if someone had it reamed for 351. I assume 351 would not fit the magazine?

possibly, the longer 351's will load & chamber from the magazine.
mag has no stampings to indicate caliber.
just not comfortable enough to find out lol.
351's are loaded a fair bit hotter from what i understand.

Yes definitely. The slide weight is considerably heavier in a 351 to account for it.

Also, your mag could be aftermarket. I don’t have a 1905 to check, but 1907 and 1910 mags are all clearly calibre marked in the bottom and look to be pressed from a single piece (I.e. no floor plate or visible welded seam). They also have serrations machined into the sides.

Let me know if you need something more specific

definitely a factory mag, but odd that it’s unmarked. What does the receiver tang say on it? 1905 or 1907?

It’s possible someone put a 1905 barrel on a 1907 action and reamed the chamber to 351, I suppose.

351 should not feed from a 35 SL magazine, so it’s strange to me.

Strange to me as well.
The 351 case is much longer.
I was surprised that it chambered.
The rifle came to me with a half box of 351 .
I have fired 5 or 6 rounds of 35 wsl flawlessly. Too chicken to try the 351 lol

Ok very odd. I have no idea how you’re getting 351 into the mag if it’s a 1905 receiver, or how it’s chambering enough to fire. Very odd indeed.

Are you sure the 351’s are fully seating in the chamber?

Everything fully chambers & cycles through the action.
Odd indeed 🤷‍♂️

The one pic shows both a 351 & 35 loaded into the magazine
I think that is a 351 magazine. So next question is why a 351 chambers at all. These calibres are rimless and seat on the case mouth, and to a degree in the case taper, not the rim. Does a 35 go deeper into the chamber?

Y suspicion is someone modified the gun to accept 351 rounds.

I don’t have a 1905 on hand, but would be helpful if someone else could see if 351 would fit an obviously marked 35SL mag, and if 351 would chamber in a known original 1905.

My gunsmith suggested drilling and tapping mine for a cope as well, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. It’s original finish, early, and nice enough to be collectible. The peep sight will have to suit.
