Winchester 94, is it worth it?

I bought a miroku 30/30 from my local gun store in Cranbrook, they had some on sale..........Now I've owned 10 or 12 model 94 guns, but never have I owned a 94 like the miroku model I recently picked up, its quality is the best by a country mile and the gun looks sooooo good. Fit and finish is the deal, are the expensive????..........FRICK ya , but worth every penny, the guys at Winchester in the USA during the final years could learn a lesson from the Japanese on this one..........IMHO its the best 94 by a mile

The only guys who claim that old so cheaters are better than the brand new ones have never held a new one. They are too expensive for my blood, but are excellent guns.

I've had many Model 94's over the years since 1973 & have 2 at present. Nothing out there carries as well fer me. I like the build quality of the Miroku units, but get turned off by the added safety and lawyer forced scripting on the barrel. I'd be nice to see Pedersoli make a 94 as they keep to the original specs & no legal crap stamped on the barrel.

I had a late-60's 94 for a while. I bought it because it was so handy. Then I found that it didn't operate as slick when I was actually firing it, because of extraction. I didn't like the straight grip either. When I thought about it, the main reason it's so handy is because it doesn't have some giant scope sitting on top of it. And the other reason is because it's not too long, not too heavy, and you can wrap a hand right around it at the balance point. I figured I could get a bolt gun to feel like that with some work, so I sold it.

Handle a high condition 1894 made at around 1900. Pretty hard to beat that fit and finish.

I've got the Win 94 Trails End Takedown in 450 Marlin. Miroku edition. Fantastic quality and workmanship. They are pricey but it's probably the nicest lever I've owned. Nicer than the per-64's I've had or have. But I do still love my 44 mag Trapper. ;)

Buy yourself an excellent condition Pre-64 Model 94 in .30/30 for $700... excellent rifle, cheap shooting.

^^ This!! ^^ ........ and you'll have a rifle that's still worth what you paid for it after you shoot it. Such will NOT be the case with a new $1900 M94.

I like 94’s. I use a .32 mid 50’s carbine for whitetail and I have a 30-30 carbine of the same vintage. I have an old old .32 rifle coming.

Wanting to add a lever gun to my collection, is the Winchester 94 (at $1900 at Cabela's) really worth like almost twice much as a Marlin? The Marlins come in pistol calibres which seem like cheaper ammo. What do you all have, are you pleased with your Marlin or Winchester?

The new Winchesters made in japan are the best ever in my books.I just bought a 30/30 and its amazing, $1350 plus taxes at MLGS

1900? pffft no. Get a pre-64 for 6-800 and you'll have a cooler gun that actually appreciates
Myself and Silverback quite a few years ago did a total tear down and cleaning of a friend's hierloom rifle. Winchester 1894 rifle with 26 inch barrel and full length magazine bought in 1923 for grandfather rancher in Cypress Hills. It's freaking scary how butter soft those action screws were. Also the pours of the steel seemed to consume oil yet still seem barely surface lubricated metal to metal. Very intimidating getting it back together without stripping even one screw! Not something I would like to repeat.

I have a pre 64 Winchester in 30-30.

Something about this rifle makes me want to pick it up and carry it around.

I know exactly what you mean, i have a 1952 94 in 30-30 and i ended up randomly buying it one day because there was a good deal. I never wanted a 3030, had zero interest in it, didnt plan to shoot it and was going to flip it quickly. But something about the rifle makes me want to pick it up and carry it around. So ive since bought ammo and have been taking it out and using it a lot.

Canadian tire in Shaunessy has M-94's for no where near that price. If memory serves they were $1200 and $1400 for 20 inch barreled guns but I can't tell you why the price difference. It's almost impossible to get a good look at their firearms since they put in the scissoring security doors.
