I like the Marlin 336 more than the Winchester 1894. It’s cheaper, just as good quality, and probably today’s most popular lever action rifle. It’s also not fun when the top eject that the 1894 has sends a hot shell down your shirt. The prices people are estimating are way off. Everyone thinks their guns are worth a fortune. I took a quick glance though FirearmsCanada and the average price for the 1894 was $1000 and the average price for a Marlin 336 was $500! Most of the marlin adds say “Fired 6 times then put it away and never used it again” These are both new prices on old used guns. If you do find an 1894 for sale for $200 it’s probably a piece of s**t that’s barrel is so worn out it’s like a smooth bore shotgun. This one guy was selling a 1894 Ranger and I had to go take a look at it since he only wanted $200 for it. The front sight was off to the right, it didn't have a rear site, and to barrel looked like a gravel pit!

any one of the "big three" should be considered- there's a lot of savage 99s in 300/303/308 in scabbards esp in the west- i've had a 99 in my scabbard for years- compared to these, your blr is a relative infant- personally, i like the more reach of the 99 in 308- and the 94 has been modified for angle eject for quite some time now
An old 99 in 308 would look great in the scabbard, and give you a better caliber than the 30-30..
well, that's what the kokanee ranger carries, and if it's good enuff for him, etc- btw, with the 308, you can also take moose and elk, black bear, and sasquatch, if you're in the right place at the right time- but they're LOUSY eatin
I thought that most Marlins are wore out after six rounds,so that seems true to form. From my experience anyway.
Is the .308 a common caliber in those older models??
