There was one at the last gun show in Duncan. Not 'quite' the shape of mine but not bad, except that it also had a side mounted peep sight on it. Not counting the peep, I'd say 85%. There's another show there March 4th and it may be there again.

Did you consider it ' pricey ' Johnn ?
I bought one at a gun show about 4 yrs. ago for $ 375, a standard rifle in used but very good condition and all intact.
My Deluxe was purchased at a local gun auction years ago for for a low price also.

The first one I had was a standard grade also. As with a few other firearms over the, about three minutes after I parted with it, I kicked my butt and very soon after ended up getting another the same or as in this case, better.
$375.oo!! That's one h**l of a price!! The last standard I saw, in very nice condition was in the range of $1,500.oo. I'm not positive but I think the deluxe I saw at the last show in Duncan was around $2600.oo. I could dig into it and find out for sure but that's what I think it was priced at.

Just got back word about the deluxe that was at the last show in Duncan. Gone.

Just received my Miroku/Winchester 71, it is a fine firearm.... Well worth the 2 years waiting period! I'll try to post some pics next week (no camera for now).

What are the advantages, if any, of a Model 71 compared to an 1886?
As the '71 is my favorite lever gun/caliber combo, I've come across and scanned a 'bit' of info on it from a number of sources. Basically, the '71 is an updated and slightly improved continuation of the '86. Some of the changes, to start with, the mainspring was changed from a leaf design to a coil. Other parts were apparently simplified and strengthened. Comb of the butt stock is supposedly 5/8" higher. The firing pin, slightly smaller in diameter and above the ejector. The vertical lock up lugs are curved at the top to make tha action smoother. Last but not least, 348 WCF is the only caliber the '71 was offered in and that caliber was never comercially avaoilable in any other model.

Mine is an older deluxe model and is actually my second '71. I foolishly sold the first but this one I keep.

Does any mind if I bring this thread back to life?
Of my last 3 acquisitions, 2 were Model 71s. Up front we have the genuine article with a Browning carbine in behind.

I'm still waiting for my holy grail, Winchester Carbine Deluxe with bolt peep and original sling come up for sale.

Thanks for the revival Nipigon Jack, they are a special rifle..
I hope that somebody can come up with a plan to fit mine into my urn along with the ashes 'cause I'm not parting with it....
