Winchester Survival Shotgun

The one thing that I did, that non of you thought of ..... is start with a shotgun without the tang opening lever that bites you. :)

Nice, I like that one too :)

thanks.

it's a rossi .410 with the barrel cut at 19'' and the stock cut
in a pistol grip.

i had loads of fun with it shooting slugs one handed, drawing it from
my homemade holster.

i used it as a one shot single action cowboy revolver
( draw,#### the hammer and shoot as fast as possible )

about as close to a bush legal ''revolver '' you can get without
spending a fortune on an antique. ;)

Here,s mine I bought a few months ago...cut the barrel down,,filed and and reblued the muzzle.
I took it as my bird gun for in the truck/atv this fall while deer hunting and it worked great .

this is a pic before the cut

this is a couple pics after the cut to 18.25 in

I didnt cut the rear stock...but I just bought a Norinco HP-9 ...so now I thinking I might cut the stock down to make a real shorty. That was the plan when I bought it but I couldnt bring myself to go all the way...lol....so to speak

And I also made sure to get one that had just the hammer up top so no bite marks..lol

This thread really delivers! It even had a troll fudd drop in with some kind words and no one even took the bait, first time I ever saw that!

I am finally getting my RPAL and was on my way to check the EE for a ruger single six, and I clicked the shotgun EE by mistake. I figured, "why not look for that 20 gauge cooey you have been looking for just for this project". Sure enough it was at the top of the pile and in good shape, for 100 bucks. :D
I'll post pics when it's done, I have a few other mods running around upstairs for it too.

i tought about doing something like this,
only with an H&R handi rifle in 30-30

zoom_handi_500.jpg

i always liked the Thompson Center Arms Contender pistol
in 45/70 that lance henricksen had in hard target

but since the tc contender is restricted,i could not bring it camping
in the woods.

by taking the little 300$ handi rifle ( maybe less if i find one used )

i could simply cut the stock into a pistol grip
( the barrel is already short at 22'', not worth it to cut it )

this could be a neat little non restricted pistol to bring camping
( moderate loads for plinking, hot loads for protection )

who thinks this could be a god idea ?
and who thinks i'm crazy or stupid ?

I have been thinking about this since I read this post a few days ago, and I think it's a great idea, I want to do it with a H&R in 17hmr now, but any calibre would be pretty cool. Have you turned up any examples of anyone actually doing this?

This thread is old but what a amazing idea!... Great project for a packlite shotgun for a weekend of fun, that anyone can do.

Thanks for the idea xjDarrell!

I was going to actually frankenstein my old cooey shotgun into one of these survival shotguns, but I bought one of these instead.
H & R Tamer.....Available in 20 gauge and 410, at a dealer near you.

$200 out the door, brand new. Nickel finish, and a 4 round shell holder built into the stock. Its crazy accurate also with slug. Its smaller than a Red Ryder BB gun, and its very light. I got a 410 model, so I can bag grouse without mashing the meat.

Spare your old shotguns and just get one of these and be done with it.

And where's the fun in that?

I personally don't like chopped up shotguns, but I can see how it could be a fun project for others, and don't mind seeing what can be done.

bottom one,

a rossi .410 with the barrel cut at 19'' and the stock cut.

i use it with slugs as a bush legal '' single action revolver ''.

quick draw from the hip holster, pull the hammer and shoot one handed.

not a '' survival '' shotgun but a fun toy to play with.

( yes, i know the stock is cut square, i prefer this configuration over a
pistol grip as the triangle at the top gives me something to wrap my thumb over for a better grip when shooting one handed )

that o/u looks like the photoshop I made in the cam am thread just a little longer

Bump...as I plan to make my own ASAP :)

I take mine out all the time, I got about 15 grouse with it this year.

I tend to think it's going to spread even more than it does and shoot high and miss though. I didn't obliterate any grouse this season, so I'll put up with the few misses :) It's really handy chasing grouse into super thick almost crawling through it brush.

Plus, You feel a little bit like a pirate when you carry it.
