Winchester Survival Shotgun

Barrel length is usually measured with a cleaning rod inserted into the barrel until it touches the front of the bolt or in this case, with a tape measure from tip to tip. I would make sure that it is slightly over 18" so that you don't end up with a length slightly less than 18".

People cutting barrels like this usually cut down to 18.5" or 18.25" to be safe.

PS. This probably has been mentioned before but just in case, report the change in length of barrel to CFC to update your registration information.

Measure from the back of the chamber to the muzzle.
If you close the action you can insert a rod down the barrel till it contacts the bolt or in the case of a single action the receiver and take a measurement that way.

bottom one,

a rossi .410 with the barrel cut at 19'' and the stock cut.

i use it with slugs as a bush legal '' single action revolver ''.

quick draw from the hip holster, pull the hammer and shoot one handed.

not a '' survival '' shotgun but a fun toy to play with.

( yes, i know the stock is cut square, i prefer this configuration over a
pistol grip as the triangle at the top gives me something to wrap my thumb over for a better grip when shooting one handed )

Do you have any full sized shotguns so you can have some actual range with them? :p

So I have been watching over this thread and I think I will take the plunge and do the same with my Cooey Sure Shot 12gauge... I was back and forth whether I would or not and I think now after seeing all the good feedback I'm just gonna do it. Gonna take it out to the farm this weekend to have one last go with it in full before I make the cut...

Love the Outlaw. Just bought one from a member. For the sxs the rule is 26 1/2 inches overall fireable length. For semi autos minimum 18 inch barrel. The Dominion Outlaw has 12 inch barrels from the factory and is non-restricted. Great for backpacking and packing on the bike

Wrong, Manuals like pumps, levers, singles, O/U, and SxS are 18" if cut at home or by a smith.

Right, Semi's can only be cut to 18.5" at home or by a smith.

So many rules:confused: So a 12 inch barrel is ok if it's from a factory but if it's a custom job it's a different minimum requirement?

Thats right, the under 18" from the factory is a loophole in the firearms Act, works for now but I am surprised the RCMP has not started the bull#### with these guns yet.

Well done XJ !!! I just bought a 12 gauge single of a fellow CGN and will do the same !! And I bought a good pipe cutter a few days ago in anticipating finding a project gun....I will try and find an allen head bolt when I get it...now I have to wait
